I wanted to see people's inputs who really know the F8x platform and have been long term owners regarding the following.

I plan on keeping the car for the next 4 years if it's reliable and relatively low maintenance (for an M car), and putting 12k on it a year so i'll be selling the car with 80k on the odometer.

It's going to be my daily driver and I really don't want issues and hope it can last the next few years. I've noticed there's people on here who have bulletproof F8x with high mileage and other stock F8x that are in the shop or at the dealer every few months.

Are there key differences in driving habits/maintenance that I should know about? I was going to do regular oil changes, brake fluid flushes, diff oil and spark plugs based on the intervals according to BMW. Oil changes will probably be 5k rather than 10k to be safe. I do drive hard but I don't track the car. Probably going to stay stock apart from exhaust.

Just cracked 153k no problems. Change the oil every 10k miles. You should be ok with your maintenance plan.

what transmission shifting setting do you drive in?

did you ever change DCT fluid or do the GTS trans flash?

& what modes do you usually drive in. wow 153k no issues I'd literally shed a tear if i got to that point

I change oil every 5,000 miles or six months, half of the BMW recommended interval.

My street settings are:
M1: Efficient/Comfort/Comfort, DriveLogic S2, always shift manually (Sequential mode), DSC on. This is the mode I drive in around my neighborhood (quieter).
M2: Sport Plus/Sport Plus/Comfort, DriveLogic S2, always shift manually (Sequential mode), MDM on. This is the mode I drive in most of the time.

I do drive in Drive mode (automatic) and M1 if it's raining or the roads are wet. Better safe than sorry!

I only have a little over 34,000 miles on my 2016 M4, but I also track the car regularly and have about 26 track days on it (unfortunately have missed another 6 due to COVID-19).

Nice, you might be the first F80 to break 150k, congratulations 👏👏👏.

I am at 40k and the only issue I have had is a leaking intercooler. The car has been dead reliable this far and based off of your planned maintenance I'd say you are fine. I DD my car as well. Planning on doing the DCT fluid around 75k for peace of mind.

is there a reason you use S2 and always shift manually?

I do the same,

I find driving in D it lugs the engine until the dct decides to downshift, so for example if im at 1800 rpm in 6th and i hanmer it for a split second before car downshifts the engine struggles.

i shift and keep my car in the powerband always, also this way you cant kickdown

I started shifting manually 100% of the time a few months into ownership and never looked back.

Because I prefer to shift manually (Sequential Mode). I haven't owned an automatic since the first used car I bought in 1969. I didn't buy my M4 with the DCT for the automatic shifting, I bought it because it's superior to shifting a manual especially on the track. (Before all the naysayers pile on this statement, I also have a Z4 M Roadster, 6MT, and I've driven a manual nearly my whole life. This is my opinion, which is not subject to debate. You''re entitled to your own opinion.)

DriveLogic has 3 settings, S2 is the middle setting and offers a balance between the softer shifting of S1 and the harder shifting of S3. In my track profile, I use S3. Note that the corresponding settings when in Drive Mode (automatic) is D1, D2, and D3.

I've got a 2016 non Comp stripper version and put 25,600 on it last year doing all the maintenance you highlighted. Especially 5K oil changes. Just keep an eye on your coolant expansion tank, fairly common to have the seams weep. Other than that, you should be good to go.
Enjoy it.

does that mean a coolant leak? if so, is there a way to check myself as i'm pretty sure these cars dont have a sensor to check the coolant level

I may be in the minority, but I usually change oil every 2.5-3k miles. Can never hurt to be overly cautious.

Probably a silly question, but what's wrong with the seams weeping? Why can't we just jb weld the seams if it leaks? I see people always just replacing the entire thing instead of just reparing the seams -- seems like an easy thing to fix than to replace? Or is this just a tell-tale sign of the tank going to explode?

WOW, that is amazing!

How about rotors/brakes and tires? How many sets do you change already?

I run winter tires so I have been replacing at least 1 tire a year. As for brakes I just changed the rear pads, rotors, & sensor at about 149k and some change. The fronts are still saying 120k left.

This is weeping. Dealer said it could burst, covered by BMW and replaced.

After 15,000 miles it should look like the bottom 2 pictures.

Note: during the weeping I had the system pressure tested at 2 different BMW dealerships and both times the system passed their leak test. But, as you can see in the first pics, it still "spit" coolant here and there making an irritating mess.
I hope that helps,
Bill
