2015 BMW M3-M4 to have optional Carbon Fiber Backed Seats

I just found this article from Autoguide from end of September announcing or rather claiming an Optional Carbon Fiber Backed Seats on the M3 and M4. I am really liking this look and would select option if it does in fact becomes part of ordering. I am thinking weight savings and good looks but wonder what the price would be. Maybe $1500. Would you order this?

Wow, that looks great!!

If these are an option I will definitely consider just based on space-savings alone. This would greatly enhance rear-seat legroom.

2 words for you: Not available in the USA.
More like 5, but still gets the point across.

RS4 had light weight race seats, but they weren't available in the USA since they couldn't house the additional side impact airbags. This will be a Euro only option, no doubt in my mind it won't be available here due to our hyper safety environment.

Looks great, but I'm with absolute. It won't be available here. I'd opt for those over CCB's.

This is another reason to remember that BMW may also not have been quoting US-specific weights in the articles that have come out so far.

They'll be available here....if they're available at all. But they'll be waaaaay more than a $1500 option.

Looks great, highly doubtful for US market availability and if they would be $1500 would not be the cost! Your looking at double or even triple that.

That's a picture of the E90 M3 CRT interior, and the optional sports seats on the F8X won't look as aggressive:

Not sure why you think the US market would dictate BMW's decision to release ROW.

BMW is notorious for not releasing limited edition models and options to the US. The previous generation BMW Performance seats being a perfect example of this.

If they're available at all (which they should be, given the fact that they've been spotted in mules), a US release is far from a foregone conclusion.

Edit: I'm an idiot. You're in New Zealand.

Even if they become an options and are not to be offered in US, I'm sure with sponsors on here there will be no issues in still getting them. example Perf Seats.

I just want some info to come out already on the M3/M4 gzzz the wait is killing us! LOL give us something, anything!

Side airbags are not required by US Federal laws.

I agree, hopefully those aren't the seats that we get

The AMG seats take the cake for sure, and audi does better as well.

COME ON BMW, step up your seat game! The e46 m3 had some good seats, so we know BMW can do this

I really like the carbon seats!! They look great. I would certainly opt for them, but will they be able to be heated?

Of course not.. but a crap side impact crash rating is not something they are willing to stomach. Again, happened with RS4, I'm sure it will happen again with BMW.

This would be a major option on a large production vehicle so I really doubt that the US would not be included. The CRT was such a low production car that is was just easier to leave the US out.

I really really want seats similar to the CRT! If BMW can make a Carbon Fiber drive shaft then surely they can made CF backed seats that meet US safety standards. Besides, most aftermarket seats (i.e. Recaros) dont have airbags.

I just want some more interior information! Pleeeaaseee!!! Can we please see an interior shot that isnt all Black?! I would even settle for a shot of black Alcantara or CF somewhere in the car.

And it would probably save more weight than CCB's, although not unsprung weight. I hope the 3304 lb target isn't with these in them. We'll never get to that weight in the US.

Cheers.

Where are the CF backed seats that were supposedly spied in the M3 crash? I see the top but nothing I see tells me that they are CF backed.

It's just a Recaro Sportster seat. They're 22 pounds with the rails, compared to 80+ pounds for an OEM seat. They're pretty easy to get for under $1500:

Agreed. That ///M is really gaudy; do not want.

Interior is underwhelming me, but the exterior is looking good.
