I completely change my stance on the new GT3 RS. Now that I've actually seen it in motion I think it's absolutely beautiful, maybe even better than the prior model which is unbelievable. Pause this video at 2:38, what an unbelievably beautiful machine.

yeah...

My detailer knows very well about my interest in the 4RS and he is but also isn't looking forward into dealing with detailing that either.

The E30 M3 was the only M3 that was ever "street legal race car." The M3 has been a high-performance entry-level luxury car since the E36, which was introduced 27 years ago now. I don't think the G80 really moves that far away from what the M3 has "always" been, relative to the rest of the market (almost every car from every manufacturer has gotten bigger and heavier over time). On an inflation-adjusted basis its base price is also right in line with what the M3 has cost since the E9x was introduced in the late 2000s.
Maybe base price, but there are now competition and competition xDrive models that are significantly more expensive (and popular). In addition, there is the M4 model which is more expensive yet. I'm assuming you used the M3 base for your analysis? Its a guess, but I would think that the average transaction price far exceeds the E9X inflation-adjusted benchmark you cited.

Gorgeous

I mean... uh..... you do you man...

What's the general sentiment here though 2 years later? Still the same or have people come around to the G8X a bit more after the initial shock? Admittedly I don't have the BMW pedigree in my history of car ownership to have as passionate a view on it as many others I'm sure have had, so while I played along with some of the jokes in the beginning, the G8x never truly bothered me. And I've come to really like it... to now me being super excited for what might be my final opportunity to own a new 6MT car.
Pretty much everything about the G8X bothers me, except it's performance numbers.

The design is still terrible and it's not cohesive.
The gearbox is weak, be it a silly ZF or a underrated 6MT.
Weight.
It's changed it's class from "street legal race car" to "luxury sedan" further blurring the line between the 3/4 and 5.
Digital dash is really bad.
2023> stupid ass wide screens and no cockpit.

List goes on and on.

On the bright side, it's better than the new M2, although that's not saying much

Sad thing is I don't see myself getting another BMW again, unless it's an F80 which I'm very much looking at right now trying to find the right one.

I don't like what BMW is doing and I've always been a BMW guy at heart and as glorious as a V8 is I'm still a Inline-6 diehard dummy.
I've considered a wagon C63S and a Guilia Quadrafoglio but they both don't scratch that F80 feeling, and I'll need a sedan.
Although I'm tired of getting grouped in with the shit kids with $70k loans on their banks 2015MY car trying to kill everyone around them.
Porsche is unfortunately out of the option unless I'd get a taycan which I won't as it's boring, although I'd love a Macan GTS
Hmmm! So if the M3 was considered a street legal race car to you, then what do you consider the GT Porsches of the world?!?
Porsche GT is streetier legalier racier car

That being said to me the M generations have always felt a little like that to me, bit raw and wild and right now the leap don't make me feel that way, it feels more like a luxurious car and less like a race car.

But it is what it is and it's not to detract anything from the car itself since that is emotion/feeling based, it just isn't for me.

That’s true but options are a choice. It would only be fair to include them if the base vehicle had been decontented, but I don’t think it has.

The real lesson here is inflation sucks.

The only detailing it needs is lots of tire rubber all over the front end

Oh I agree, these need to driven. Although I wouldn't hit the track before it is detailed and full ppf applied. This car is going to be a detailers and ppf installers nightmare.

I disagree with this. E36 M3 3.0 Euro (especially the GT variant) was essentially a street legal DTM race car with all the luxurious goods that could be easily stripped if desired. It is so easy to tune them even to this day thanks to the tune-friendly platform and the abundance of parts.
Gan-san's description of the Schnitzer's E36 M3 best demonstrates how solid this platform was, as he called it "the ultimate RWD machine" at the time.

The problem is it takes someone that knows what they are doing with the GT3 RS to get the most out of it. Most regular folks don't, they don't track so none of the little things are going to matter aside from it being "neat."

like he said in the review... its hard to convey the feeling of downforce to the average person. which is what the car is built on. people care more about a car that can run a 9 second quarter mile or do 0-60 in 2.5 than a car that can pull 2g through a corner or brake from 100-0 in 100ft.
