agreed.

Also, look at itrader account and verify previous post. usually the scammers post randomly in different forums to show acrivity/rep. example, interest in a vehicle but it sold 3 year ago.

from my experience if someone ask to communicate only via email it's usually a scam. if a scammer calls you and you speak to them, ensure you call the number back. scammers will just have a virtual number set up and they won't accept calls.

I have even had a scammer face time me, but i caught him cause I found the pictures from a 4 year old post and he could not provide new ones caused the parts were packed for shipping. he wanted friends and family payment.

do some research on the pictures! even use Google images. you can search using a image. most times a a scammer just copies pictures from old post with no knowledge of the product.

always protect yourself! don't fall trap with the typical excuse... I am a loyal forum member unless you are willing to risk your money.

happy hunting. I have alot of success getting good deals on this forum, but I have gotten a lot scammer reach out.

one thing I wished I knew is how do you report them? let me know.

I am new to bimmerpost and search everyday for potential deals. If I shouldn’t use paypal and I’m not meeting in person, how should I make a payment? And any other tips on how to avoid scammers on here? I had no idea that was a big issue here.

Start getting involved with this community instead of just lurking for deals. I don't mean that in a sarcastic way - by doing so, you'll be in the know about best practices and if anything does go wrong for you then other community members will feel much more compelled to help you out. Said another way (and speaking for myself, tho I'm certain many others feel this way): it's hard for me to give AF about a < 10-post wonder who got screwed on a deal and is using forum space as a sounding board.

But to answer your question: Paypal is the way to go - just NOT Paypal Friends & Family. Always make sure it's Goods & Services and, honestly, just offer to pay the fee - sellers usually are pretty friendly to that and it's mainly benefitting you as a buyer.

Just bought my f82 and only came here in search for a used parts market. Not really sure what I can add to the community. I’m certainly not a scumbag looking to rip people off. Perhaps when I’ve become more familiar with the platform I’ll have something worthwhile to add. Thanks for the heads up and the info.

or just negotiate with fees included. i have never asked a buyer to PP F&F me for any of the items i have sold, in fact if they offer i typically tell them thats great for me but you really shouldn't do that, even though i am a stand up guy.

As long as you use Regular PayPal and not the PayPal Friends and Family option then you have buyer protection. Friends and Family has no seller fee. If the seller complains about the fee then offer to pay it or split it, same with shipping. The for sale post should say these things up front but clarify if needed. Aside from that, when you put the $ value in PayPal also put in the Note what you bought ("used working Fuel It stage 3 fuel pump for BMW M4" for example). Make sure the guy ships to the address you have in PayPal, that helps him get paid. Aside from that you should be good here.

thanks Tommy for the heads up.

I recognized that I asked a one member to pay me with PayPal using F&F.

The reason? He ask me to hold a set of wheels I am currently selling because he was not able to pick/buy them in 2 or 3 weeks.

He offer me to give a reserve, we did not discuss the amount, and I agreed if that amount was via paypal F&F. I gave him the username of all the members I did business with.

Why I did it? To cover myself. If he does not decided to buy the wheels at the end and ask paypal for a refund I lose the money, time, potential buyer and power of negotiation.

But I agree for a purchase new Zelle or similar, itrader rating is not 100% relaible

Been having scammers reach out when they see I have interest in items listed for sale by others.

Had the same username reach out about 2 items they "also had for sale" and provided me 2 different phone numbers to text.

They also seem to message you right when you come online..

Can they be reported?

Using an internet browser see who the moderators are for that forum, and PM them.
