I have to do this occasionally and I hate it. Takes me a while to find a good spot and even then I'm super nervous. People in parking garages just don't care.

If I ever find myself in these situations I would try to find a parking spot under a security camera or near one.

I once had my trunk spoiler stolen while my car was parked in a spot for a few weeks. Luckily my car was parked under a security camera and was able to get footage of the whole theft. I was able to get a warranty claim on it.
