I was skeptical too I Searched YouTube and found a stress test of a formula 1 carbon fiber driveshaft vs steel. They tested the twist force limits to a breaking point. The steel shaft bent and twisted at a lower lbs of stress. The carbon fiber took a lot more twist force before they found the limit. It's a very cool video. Now think about how efficiently the carbon axel can spin up compared to steel. Cool video! |

I was able to have my dealer confirm it on a routine visit that mine had it 2018 m3CS, I know there has been some debate if all CS cars have it so it was just a little curiosity that I needed to settle for myself. I’d love to drive 2 m3s back to back one w and one without in the real world to see if there is a noticeable difference

Wait so is this true? 2014-2015 F80's and F82's have a more aggresive torque curve from the factory ? Could this be re-enabled through any of the various tunes out there? Pretty sure it is, but just double checking (for a friend ) Cheers, Merlin

It's easier to lose control and you have less usable power at lower speeds Mine is a 2016 6MT F80. With moderate throttle under the right/wrong wet roads I've seen my traction control flicker at 60+ MPH |

The early cars did have a more aggressive torque curve. It's as if BMW heard all the apocalyptic bitching about losing the V8 and said, "hold my beer...". But even with that torque-injected-machismo, not only did the car journalists still cry about losing the V8, they bitched and moaned about the car having SOOO much torque that it was costing them tires and diapers. Still, others were losing control of their cars and blaming tire pressures -- but the journos knew it was because of the torque curve. Subsequent years saw the torque curve softened a bit to make it more drivable.... which IMO, was a good thing. Honestly. I got one of the first MY 2016s in the country. I thought the torque was pretty crazy at first too, but I got used to it. Then I got a BM3 tune and tapered off 1st and 2nd gear. It's so much more enjoyable to drive. |

With a tune you can do whatever you want LOL. Also the earlier cars came with a Magnesium Oil Pan, where they took that out later.

I have a 2018 M4 ZCP 6MT, built 3/17 with March 2017 software and it had the lower rpm, higher torque mapping. While it was fun, it wasn’t very practical nor helped with wheel slip. After the ilevel software update, it transformed the car through out, delayed power curve, better steering and then in combination with the GTS, CS coding, was day and night.
That being said, the change in the power curve, I doubt, had anything to do with the change from the CF to the steel driveshaft. I have the CF drive shaft. Last edited by Fat Goose; 10-19-2021 at 02:51 PM.. |
