Oil Thermostat Delete

Been seeing these thermostat delete kits on the market. They are quite cheap as compared to the Mosselman kit which is much more expensive.

Anyone using them? How are you liking them? ( I'm in Singapore so the climate here is hot )

Not good, always solutions may be a cheaper alternative to oil cooling upgrades but for street driven vehicles it's a really silly idea. Engines have an operating range and the job of the thermostat is to keep the engine within that range. When it's always open and you cold start the vehicle, all that cool oil is being sent to the cooler to be cooled, not good. Cooler oil doesn't have the same viscosity and lubricating effects compared to one within the operating temp range. So basically when the thermostat is always open (or deleted) it will take a very long time to get to the required temp range or it may actually never get there at all.

Is your engine oil overheating in traffic or on track in Singapore?

Don't modify for the sake of modifying.

It's not overheating. But the climate here is hot

And i see people buying the mosselman thermostat which is expensive asf and they keep their temps low with that ( it does the same thing as the thermostat delete ) so im trying to wonder why

Especially since i havent ( yet ) seen anyone complain about the mosselman thermostat

The F8* coolant system is robust and able to balance daily driving - quick cold start oil warming - and track driving - cooling - reliably stock! Do not remove the thermostat! I don't even think the Mosselman thermostat housing is worth it on a stock oil cooler system as it doesn't increase cooling capacity, just increases flow to and from the cooler before the thermostat would normally open.

Even if my car is stage 3 ? The car is a " weekend car " and when it's driven its driven hard . Not a daily driver car thus the reason for the oil thermostat delete consideration.

Re-read what nicksm3 posted. There's a difference between a lower temp thermostat and deleting it all together. Unless your climate is 200F+, your engine isn't going to overheat.

The people using the Mosselman thermostat are generally heavily modified or running their vehicles hard at the track which can lead to potentially higher engine temps; the Mosselman unit in no way shape or form "does the same thing as the thermostat delete", it simply opens the thermostat valve earlier in order achieve slightly lower temps which are still within acceptable operational ranges. If you delete that function entirely, as was stated before, you'll never reach operating temperature and likely do more harm than good. Heat may be the enemy of power (which is the angle I believe this train of thought is coming from) but deleting the thermostat isn't the way to address it.

Keep it in sport plus. My thermostat needle is always cooler on sport plus 😉

Keep the stock oil thermostat so oil stays in the proper operating range.

Guys race the S55 cars on track in hot summers. These cars cool just fine. What's the highest temp you normally see on your cluster's oil thermometer?

That would be as dumb as taking out the thermostat for your water coolant as well.

Sport+ sets all the fans and other items (I think) to max cooling. I have logged with BM3 and it cools quickly. I turn it on 3-4min before storing in the garage to keep the temps down in there.
