Good lord that's a lot of money for a non-fixable car.

There is 100% chance it's going for export, like all flooded cars sold for high price.

Yup. USA - Latvia or Lithuania - Western Europe.

There are hundreds if not thousands of salvaged BMWs and other German cars from North America for sale in Germany. Rebuilt in the two countries mentioned above, mostly. You can easily spot those cars because they are usually low-mileage gasoline variants (35/40i, M cars) and they've got M Performance accessories. And the ad might just say "re-import, front clip damage" and nothing else.

Just curious how that really works? Export laws and/or the receiving county's Tax rates any different when the car is salvaged?

So interesting. So the cost of the car and importing again to Europe plus repair can really yield a worthwhile profit?

Yes, hugely profitable. When I used to be involved in the car business, I had a russian buyer who would buy any high mileage, newer high end SUV's i would get in without question- Escalades, RX's, GL's, etc.

They would ship them over to eastern europe in shipping containers out of Bayonne, NJ and put in newer, low mileage clusters and re-sell.

Yeah.

There are people who will buy these cars without checking its history or knowing it's an import. Just read on the German forums about a guy who's got an X3 just like that; found out it's got a US salvage title only after buying it.
