Just did my first track day with the F80 at Watkins Glen. Im on BM3 stage 1 and its been great. Comfort steering, sport throttle, traction off is fine and very managable. I tried traction on the first session just to get a feel of the car and it was ok...it was cutting in a lot during tracking out of corners.

For some reason, i thought the torque on this car would be upsetting but its been great for uphill corners. Really easy to modulate. Its not smooth as a NA engine but also not hard to manage. This is coming from an E36 M3 where you can pretty much go flat on the throttle, the f80 needs a little more time before going full throttle. At least for my setup anyways...

Upshifting at full throttle is a little weird though. When i lift off throttle to shift up a gear, it unsettles the car a bit.

Also, the more aggressive shift settings seem to spin the tires on upshifts. I have never experienced this before, is this normal?
Agreed for the most part. My issue was that MDM/TC made the car less predictable because IMO the interventions changed for similar situations. TC has been fully off after my 4th track day.

The toe is the only real place where it was easy to oversteer for me but this was purely driver error because I had a terrible habit of getting on throttle early there.

Where in the rev range do you shift? Got any dyno plots of your tune?

Shifting around 6.5-6.8K RPM. I was switching between michelin P4S and A052 so the upshift disturbance may have only been happening on the P4s but im not sure... I do recall after switching to A052s, the car felt so much smoother and easier to drive. It could also be that i was shifting too fast, maybe i couldve been smoother shifting.

Its a OTS BM3 93oct stage 1 tune. I havent dynoed this car but im sure it looks close to all the other graphs online with the same tune. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1297004

You really have to turn off TC in this car. It is slow and frustrating to drive with any form of TC on at the track. I think it was maybe 1 track session I ran in MDM, which was terrible, after that it's been TC full off all the time. The car is surprisingly well behaved but you can't just be flooring it all the time.

I like sport+ throttle, it's almost the sharper the throttle the better to me. They had a similar sport# setting in my STI that was super sharp, and I had a 350Z with a very sharp throttle as well. Everything else feels like mush to me.

I don't enjoy anything beyond comfort steering, it just feels dull and artificially heavy.

The addition of monoball caster arm in the front was a huge steering upgrade. It literally made me from feeling meh about the car to enjoying driving all the time.

You know what you're talking about! The monoballs are one of the most underrated mods for the F8X. Game changer. After the upgrade there is no more issue with steering feel. Admittedly, I do like the steering in Sport more than comfort but I know the comfort setting is popular.

I'm going to have to try this one! SPL, Turner, or BW?

I’ve done the Turner and Dinan. I preferred Dinan.

Steve Dinan runs his bimmers in efficient throttle setting. I find that Sport+ or even Sport is too abrupt when you are just on the traction limit post apex exit.

Having said that, Sport or Sport+ throttle is fun on the street when you are just going in the straight line.

Totally agree. If there was a way (probably is) to have max cooling of Sport+ in summer and throttle mapping of efficient, I would do that. If someone knows...
