Just curious if anyone has tried these tires yet on those transition days in Fall & Spring where it might be like 35 deg and DRY in the morning before it warms up to over 50 during the day. I've taken the MPSS out in those conditions a few times (absolutely no rain or snow) and if driven carefully, never had an issue. I know some "tire purists" will say to never take it out below 40 deg, but sometimes it's just not practical especially on those days where it's only cold for a few hours in the morning.

Just this past weekend though, the San Diego Chapter of the BMW CCA went on a Holiday Tour on the windy, twisty back roads in East San Diego County. The route took us over Mt. Laguna, 5738' elevation. There was still some snow on the side of the road in the shady forest parts from a previous rainstorm and the temp showed 36*. There was some runoff and apparently that runoff across the road was icy/slushy. I was in MDM mode and the car lost traction 3 times just running through this short section with no throttle. I put DTC on again and switched to D2 until the temps got back over 40*. The tires felt like bricks below 50* and I definitely didn't push them again until the temps were over 55*.

LOL! If it is cold and rainy, don't drive like an idiot and you will be fine with these tires in socal "winter". Definitely don't use MDM. These tires are not magic.
I have driven OEM tires and these through out Seattle's rainy winters the last 15 years in M cars and never had any problem, down to below freezing on dry pavement and above freezing on wet pavement. Sure the rubber gets hard, but it still has plenty of traction, definitely better than many other cars on the road. Just drive safely. |

Will original Michelin PSS perform better in such conditions?

Anybody running MPS4S 265/35/19 on front 9.5” rims and 305/30/19 on rear 11” rims and experiencing issues with traction control? Is it just on the street, track or both? It looks like the 275/285/295 are all around 10” tread width and might look too stretched on the 11” rims and the 265 front will be a little meaty. Trying to get my tire setup for Apex SM-10 rims.

Here's a brochure I got from Michelin reps during M Track Days and it includes part #s for PS4S. I plan on getting what's recommended on there. Hope this helps anyone.

Current tires: Stock Front PSS 255/35/19; Stock Rear PSS 275/35/19 I need to replace my rear tires, but not sure whether to get 4S 275 or go to 4S 285? I don't want to replace my front tires yet, as the tread is fine. In this thread, it seems 265/285 is the preferred set-up, but is it fine to go 255/285 until I need to replace the fronts? |

Do these ever go on sale? Read on another thread a retailer on eBay gives you $100 off $400+, couldn't find this deal though (although he said the sale happens in March sometime, so not sure how long I should wait?).
I'm buying a pair of 285/30/20's soon for my 666M. Wondering where people are getting the best prices for these? |

Sill question, I put mine in last night when I swapped off my snow tires....is the 4s not directional? There was no arrow pointing to which way they should rotate...

Just switched from the 295 35 19 to the 285 35 MP4S 19 rear tires, I have to say that although the 295 has less tread width compared to the 285, look wise the 295 looks much better and more aggressive than the 285.
In the future I might revert back to the 295 if the traction/grip is not noticeable difference. Have not drove the car enough as I cant imagine it being much different grip wise. Last edited by LAKERS333; 04-08-2019 at 11:54 AM.. |
