Active Autowerke F8x M3 M4 Midpipe Step By Step Install + Sound Clips
00:00 - 01:35 Benefits of upgrading the midpipe
01:35 - 02:40 Step by step install 02:40 - 03:23 Sound Clips The Active Autowerke F8X Mid Pipe was specifically designed to eliminate the highly restrictive nature of the OEM F80 M3 and F82 M4 mid pipe. The stock dual pipe design gives the engine a raspy tone and is very restrictive with 2 cats and a resonator. After much research and testing, Active Autowerke discovered that there is tremendous benefit to be gained by replacing the stock pipe with a 3.5” single high flow midpipe both with power and sound. The next challenge was making a large 3.5" pipe (needed for optimum performance ) fit without ground clearance issues - thus the oval pipe. The key features of this upgrade are: • Improved performance from less back pressure • Deeper & throatier exhaust note • Less restrictive, more free flowing • Lighter weight than factory system • Allows quicker turbo spool • Increased low end and mid-range power • And eliminates cheap “weed-eater” sound from the factory exhaust. Active Autowerke Dynoed their shop M4 and it showed gains of 18 horse power & 30 pounds of torque with just the midpipe upgrade. Let’s now go through the install process: Remove stock midpipe The first step when installing is to remove the stock midpipe and the process time takes 15 minutes. Start by removing the brace, then disconnect the midpipe from the downpipe, then cut from the exhaust side and remove the hangers. Install Active Autowerke Midpipe First we will install the long pipe by attaching the hanger , and connecting the midpipe from the downpipe side . Then get one of the small pipes, and connect it to the midpipe then connect the hanger . You’ll do the same for the other side , and once everything is installed correctly, you’ll tighten the connections Once installed the midpipe gives a noticeable difference in sound and power. The Exhaust tone is now much cleaner without any rasp, it also opens up after 3500 RPM and gives the M3 / M4 a deep and aggressive sound without being obnoxious.

^*Cries. There's no way of making this car sound somewhat good.
(I have the midpipe sitting in the garage, waiting to be installed when I have a sec) Why is it that the non M cars with a similar straight 6 turbo sound way better, even my old as hell beater IS300 with a full exhaust sounds better. Last edited by Kilabyte; 07-25-2019 at 11:54 PM.. |

Funny thing about this car, it sounds much better in person than on internet vids imo. For some reason it just doesn't capture well. But in person, I think it sounds epic, like nothing else on the road. Like an unleashed animal. I would get so many compliments on the sound of my car when I had VRSF dps and AA mid with stock muffler. I almost feel like people are comparing it to that crap benz C63 motor, which sounds like any other V8 on the road. I'd take the sound of my car any day and all day. Should mention Ive never heard that car from behind.............Not when I'm in my F80 that is |

My car only has the MPE muffler, stock DPs and everything else, I let her rip at work one day and I've gotten comments on how it's the worst sound they've heard/ sounds worse than a Subaru. I don't personally enjoy it either unless you give it just enough boost in higher gears, then it sounds like a BMW straight six. I wish I could make it sound like that all the time, smooth, but it seems like either the valves in the exhaust or the wastegates that make it horrible most of the time you put the pedal down and let off in boost. I get it that some people want attention as in louder the better, I like how the car turns heads with it's looks, but I hate the trumpet sound it makes at times Last edited by Kilabyte; 07-26-2019 at 12:36 AM.. |

Does the MPE have to be cut to install the AA midpipe? I do plan on selling my MPE, will cutting it hurt the resale?
Any codes thrown? Will it pass smog? I

Downpipes, AA mid, and MPE is very, very loud. The first cold start after everything was all buttoned up scared the shit out of me. I knew it was going to be louder, but I had no idea it was going to be THAT loud. The installer and I were standing across the car from each other and we were basically yelling at each other about how flippin loud it was.
