M4 Gran Coupe (or the REAL M3) Render Project

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hello all.

With the arrival of the 4 Series LCI, I'm making a render I wanted to do for a long time: an M4 Gran Coupe.

Why? The reason is simple. For me, the 4 series Gran Coupe is what the 3 Series should have been: a sleek, 4 door sedan (no, I don't consider it a coupe). IMO, the 3 series' greenhouse always looked too tall for its overall size.

Here's the final result with original front and rear views and M4 GC transformed views. And to give more visual comparison, similar front and rear view from the M3.

The transformations are the follows:
  • Front and rear bumpers from the M4 (with 4 exhaust pipes).
  • Wider front and rear track with body modifications, including M4 fender vent
  • M666 Wheels
  • M performance side skirt
  • Carbon front splitter inspired by the GTS
  • GTS hood with modified power dome (just for the fun of it)
  • Carbon roof
  • M Mirrors
  • Black shadow line: black kidneys, window surround, tail pipes and M4 logo.
  • Lowering of the car

I've also added a few colour options to give you an idea of how the car looks with other colours...

Hope you like my little project!

Cheers!

So... yeah... if there had been an M4 GC that looked similar to this, I probably would have gone that way instead of M3 (I like 4 door convenience).

Great job on this render!

And by sedan, you mean hatchback? I know what you are saying though. The 4 GC is a great looking four (five!) door.

I like what you've done - nice work. Just for your reference (not meant to discourage you!), here are some other past attempts at rendering this vehicle:

Great work again

Maybe add the M4 side gills instead of the standard 4-series ones?

Also needs the fender flares and wider track to complete the "look"

To me, 4 series GC looks a lot bigger than 3 series, not in a good way. 4 series GC is somewhere in between a coupe and a sedan. It's neither of them. Therefore, it looks so weird to me from the rear. 6 series GC is not like this tho. I think current M3 still looks a lot better than this. But nice job with the render

4 series GC is utterly pointless!

People will buy it "because coupe" but in reality it's not as good looking as the 3 series.

IMO of course

Other than the M6, the M3 is the best looking current M-car!

The stumpy proportions and tall greenhouse are what make it look like an M3.

These are the hardest mods to do but it's in the books ;-)

The first 1 render was not so good, the second OK, but missing the flared fenders. the last one has the flared fenders but the wheels seem to be off... So I might have a chance to do a better one than these ;-)

Isn't it confusing the whole 3/4 denomination??? If I were BMW I would have stuck to the 3 series sedan/coupé (with the shape of the 4GC for the 3 series) and not have gone with all these micro niche rubbish... confusing for the consumer and this is one of the biggest rule in marketing: don't confuse the consumers!

Hi. I respectfully disagree. When I saw the 4 GC, I thought it looked low and wide, with real presence and elegant sportscar proportions. I agree that the alsmost fastback rear is not to all tastes but it gives it a rearward and "fast looking" shape. The M3 looks a little more like a muscle car with its wide fenders and sits more upright. Both gave me the same sense of size (I admit both look too big compared to the e46, which is my size reference for a 3 series).

The 6 series GC, should have just been called the 6 series sedan ;-). The GC denomination is just rubbish...

Cheers!
