What are the main differences or benefits of this product over the others like bootmod3 and bpm?

Hey,

"hmm", Great! Sounds interesting.

Could you please provide a more detailed & comprehensive description of what you
are offering (F8x) - potential/possibilities - (comparisons) for those of us that may
be interested in tuning, but don't exactly know what the hell you're talking about.

Cheers!

Also, the flash counter is not incremented when the ECU is written.
For many of those that have already flashed with other platforms, I'm guessing they're SOL?

To be honest, we haven't really looked at other offerings. We are simply extending our current "open source" business model to the F series M cars. We would like to think that the OFT offers the best of all worlds at an attractive price. It is a self contained device that comes preloaded with our highly developed off-the-shelf tune files. It also offers the ability to view/adjust these unencrypted OTS tune files. The OFT can also be un-married from your car and installed on another vehicle when the time comes to move to another car. Built-in diagnostics, data display and data logging so no need to carry a laptop around in the car. We have sold nearly 15,000 OFTs in the last few years so this approach seems to resonate well with customers. We look forward to seeing the response

I don't think so. Unless the pre-existing tune locks the ECU from being written by another device or changes the calibration code string so that it cannot be recognized/identified, the OFT will install just fine. That said, some of our test customers have had existing tunes and there was no issue with compatibility.

The initial read will take a couple of minutes. And the first full ECU write will take about 15min. After that, each successive (partial write) will take about 5min. It's only when going between a totally stock file and a tune file will you need to do a complete write. Going between various tune files will only require a partial write.

How hard is it for dealer to detect this tune after un-marrying it from the car? I know all tunes are detectable, but wondering how deep they have to go to find this one?

Every responsible vendor on any moderately complex platform from the last 10 years at least has not been claiming that their solution is undetectable. Many high value platforms when still in warranty go through the same questions, perhaps especially those with known engine issues.

In this case there is like many others a data recorder. It does not matter what you do with the flash counter, software version/date, or restoring original software, even if you restore the emulated EEPROM and data recorder flash (at the first part of the second half of flash on TC1797, one of the bits you do not flash) to where they were because they will be implausible for the time you have run the tune. Some BMW tools spend quite a long time when connecting routinely by reading in use performance monitoring data.

The OpenFlash staff has grown considerably since we were active vendors on this site. So you will find a few different tuners posting under this account. But all tuning/tech related posts will be limited to the two members of our calibration team (me and Anthony). Feel free to ask any questions and we will be happy to provide whatever info we can

We do intend to expend OFT support to non M cars as well but that probably won't be a few months. Our first goal is to make sure the F series M OFT launches smoothly with full OTS tune file support. Don't want to spread ourselves too thin!

Will you also offer the other OEM maps? For instance, I might be interested in flashing a ZCP car with the CS map.
