Why do 2015 M3's cost more than 2015 M4's in Vancouver?
I'm seeing 2015 BMW M3's with similar mileage to that of a 2015 BMW M4 listed at $62,000-$68,000. And I'm seeing a few 2015 M4's range between $55,000-$59,000. None of them beat each other when it comes to options, and none of a extended warranty either, so why are the M3's much higher? None have accidents either and none are rebuilt (I live in Vancouver BC)

Simple. BMW produced way more M4s. There are more used M4s on the market than m3s.

Aside from the quantity (mostly the reason) M3 is more practical.....
I just ordered an M3 because I fell in the exact category that BMW first created this category for..... somone with a wife, house, dog and who the hell knows what else. Cant afford a Daily and a dedicated track car so this is the next best thing I had planned to get an M2comp but then the impracticality of my m235 showed after the marriage, house and dog.....Wife said the only way I could get a performance car was if it was 4 doors. I mean, its not THAT much of a compromise?

I’ve read about this phenomenon several times now on the forum. I believe the same was true for everything since e36—e.g. 4-dr is more rare so harder to find and therefore more valuable. If they made almost 70k M3/4 cars, how many were 2-dr vs 4-dr?

Supply & demand, people. With a manual and even more desirable. But they won’t appreciate no matter how much we want them too.

Answer is supply.
GTA dealers new car inventory right now: M3 (10) M4 (34) Autotrader national 2017+ search M3 (34) M4 (86) Pretty sure I can negotiate a better deal on an M4 vs M3. |

And for a four year lease the residual on the M3 is 2% less than the M4 hence lower monthly lease payment.

I was shopping for an M2, because of the smaller size (I had E36 M3s before kids) and budget. My wife wouldn't let me get an M2. She gave me the ultimatum, if I want to get a nice sport car, go with an M3 since it's got 4 doors. I told her, well it's a bit pricier, like $15K more. She said... you heard me, M3 or no sport car. Who am I to argue with my CFO? |

The only reason I took M4 over M3 was the hardtop convertible. I am not a tracker, just like sports car and top down. Got two kids 6 and 3 and they loved it! If I was getting the coupe version then I would've settled for the M3 as it is probably one of the best looking sport sedan out there. But the M3/M4 either way you cannot go wrong in terms of power/style/class. I get lots of thumbs up and compliments and my kids would wave back lol.
I think the M4 cab is rare. |
