By that same logic why ever test the F80 M3? Between the F30 3 Series and F82 M4, all parts are tested already.

Wait isnt that analogy technically not accurate as many of the M3 parts are brand new and wouldn?t even fit on an F82 and wouldnt be on an F30. I am on your side on the premise of your earlier comments, but on this one I think the analogy is a bit off, though I get what you are saying. It would seem odd that they would not extensively test the car

But then an M3 CS wouldn't genuinely source 100% of its parts from the M4 CS either, would it? Highly doubtful, especially if it is to have the CS interior. And what about the rear spoiler? Plus, it isn't just about using the same parts, it is about testing them in a specific context/environment, and the M3 is a different vehicle from the M4.

For the sake of argument I wasn't going to impeach him on his original premise to begin with, because it seems silly to spend time dissecting an argument about a vehicle which is already more than likely vaporware.

Now, we could further suppose that, maybe the M3 CS won't have the special interior. Ok, but now we have to ask ourselves, if the M3 CS isn't going to get the OLED tail lights, and it won't get the interior either, then is it really a CS? Well, it could still get the hood, the ECU upgrade, other software upgrades, and special colors. But that's not really worthy of a special model with the big price bump. And if you cut the price way down to compensate, yet it still performs like an M4 CS, then what message does that send to potential M4 CS customers?

Which CS Parts must be different for use in an M3 instead of an M4?
  • the OLED taillights
  • the door panals
  • the trunk spoiler

I think that is really all and I am sure that an M3 CS won't get the OLED lights ... and I doubt it would get the door panals !? Would that meen, that it wouldn't be an worthy M3 CS ... I don't think so !

All very valid points. I guess time will tell. I will say though, the concept of an M3 CS is just super intriguing albeit likely implausible for the remaining life of the current generation.

Right, so your argument is that the M3 CS is a real thing, but it just so happens that it only uses exactly the parts that it can borrow from the M4 CS, forgoing everything else. This will allow BMW to skip testing, even though in reality no manufacturer would ever release a product without testing the parts on the actual car they plan to sell them on.

Why not just suggest it has an invisibility mode while we are at it? That could also explain why we haven't seen it testing - they are always testing it with the cloaking feature enabled.

The M3 CS is a collaboration effort with Aston Martin.

The M3CS would be fabulous, but would it be fair? As Cinderella already looks so much prettier than her ugly sisters.

I'd like alcantara or black suede inserts on the door panels and seats please. M2 door panels are a nice example.

Could it be that the they'd go ahead with the CS in order put an end to talk about competitors like the Alfa and Merc?

Anyone know if the M4CS front spoiler fits the M4? M3?

At the risk of being repetitive ...

I'm obsessing over the idea of a M3 CS with a more normal ZCP interior. Just some special suede or alcantara or fabric/leather combo seats / door cards. No fiber door cards or door straps. And keep the center arm rest as well.

Thanks.

Should i cancel my current order and wait for the CS to come out? I guess it will only come in DCT correct?

special alcantara/leather combo non electric ZCP seats with keeping center arm rest and door cards would be nice and perfect for an M3 CS with its 4 Doors.

Or going the total different way and put an CRT seat systen in the car ... but then you can ad an slightly more powerfull engine (~475HP) and some other nice little gimmicks (like an lightweight trunk) and you have the perfect M3 CRT!

Haha thank you! Now I'm actually curious to see if this does end up happening. Wonder what else they will do to it. Ugh, more parts to get.
