If you don't care about how the car looks, ok with a minimalist interior and
just want to have a fun all around zippy car get the Tesla.

If you want a more focused good looking driver's car that goes beyond the
day to day driving antics, go with the M3.
Or just get both if you can. For sure the Model 3 is faster then the M3. The M3 handles better and a more of a driver's car.

Yessir. If it was around 90-95% SOC, I was a little lighter () with battery FULLY warmed up. I think it would have broke into the high 2's with a rollout. Excuses, but I still think it can do better!

VERY impressed. The pull from 70mph now feels very similar to how it felt from a 50mph pull.

Will continue testing to see if I can get into the 2's. DragTimes reported an 11.48@118 quarter. Not bad at all.

Weight savings goals we will get there.

I am a bit skeptical of 118. Traps of 116-117 seems more in line. Will try to get some 1/4 mile runs in as well.

Dragtimes got 117.4x, so 118 is likely within reach...

Sometimes I think no sound is better then active sound pumped through the car speakers. That's such an embarrassment and a blemish on BMW M in my opinion.

I coded active sound off as soon as my f80 was redelivered from euro pickup.

And honestly, I commutes in “efficient” mode anyway, which was pretty quiet

I have driven a P100D, but this was a standard 75 rental POS from National. I get the straight line performance of electric and it would be great as a commuter, but doesn't get me excited to drive it.

Yea makes sense.

I would never have considered an EV and would have just continued to daily my 996 turbo had my commute not gotten pretty long.

but now that I do have an EV, I get so lazy and don't want to put in effort into driving unless its at the track

Edit: thinking back, my dct f80 was a super great commuter too in terms of cushy ride and practicality. If it came with the driver assist features of a model 3 as standard in 2015, it would have made a strong case for sticking around, instead of getting punted for a low seating position 2+2 style car

Looks like the 2.9 second 0-60 run is real. Cool to get a faster car overnight.

2 different Model 3Ps ran 11.4 @ 118 recently. Here’s one:

Seems to validate that the extra top-end power is indeed present and accounted for. 👍🏻

it’s the 60-130 that folks here are concerned about, and a 1/4 mile trap won’t alleviate those concerns.

Especially after dob’s video of x3m pulling like a train on a model 3P. As much as I think the new grille is ugly, it’s looking like G80 is going to walk EVs hard from a highway roll, with that powertrain in a lighter package.

My comment was more directed at the contention that 118 mph might be out of reach.

(X3M compX4M comp are trapping 118-119, but will still be 2 car lengths back at the 1/4 mile)

I’m betting that there’s yet more power to be unleashed in the Model 3 Performance, whenever Elon decides the situation calls for that...

ICE vehicles will continue to be quicker over about 120 mph, which is mostly useless outside of airstrips or “Mexico”...

Five things to note in my X3M vs M3P race:

Driver of the Tesla was 100+lbs heavier than me
Tesla had aftermarket heavy + wide wheels/tires
X3M got the half second jump from the dig race (makes a huge difference)
This was done prior to the 2nd 5% power bump
After all of that I only passed him *after 115+MPH.

I got up to almost 135 in that run on a deserted Mexico road

In the real world where can I hit those speeds of 120+? I'd floor it off a light to about 60-70 and run out of road. Highway rolls are hard to line up and you have to plan it out to get a deserted stretch of road to play on.

Otherwise, on my daily commute, the highway is littered with cars. I'd never dream of doing any freeway rolls with the amount of cars on the road here. So, I will accept the fact that these "top-end" roll cars can take me on a 1/2 mile airstrip

I kinda agree, but disagree with the last bit of commentry.

TM3 is hands down better commuter, in every way: acceleration, street comfort, safety tech, entertainment tech (amazing audio fidelity) - pure TOTAL dominance on public roads.

///M3 is lighter, which makes it more agile, responsive, but at the expense of street comfort. That makes it a better track car, but not as good at that as most Porsches or Miatas.

I don't think this makes ///M3 a better driver's car, just more of a compromise car angled towards track fun, and away from everyday driving enjoyment. But it is still a relatively porky compromise.

I do think that ///M3 has a much better looking exterior vs. TM3 (but badly dated interior), but the brand coolness of Tesla overrides this consideration for just about everyone else.
Sadly, BMW's brand appeal has faded, badly.

Hi all, two things that haven’t been discussed (and I don’t see discussed at all):
- car lost 3% of battery overnight in 55F ambient temps (keeping battery warm etc). If you need the car to be parked without a charger (eg at airport) look into how much owners in your area lose when parked in winter
- 2019.36 software update has made the car more efficient. my average consumption before the update is 284wh/mi and I seem to be closer to 263wh/mi now. That still puts the car around 250 mi range charging to 90%. It takes some seriously slow freeway driving and idea ambient temps and no heater usage and 100% charging to get to 300 mi

Good to know mine will be the exact inverse. I expect 190 miles per top up.
