Don't go for the automatic, it's junk. I drove a regular ZL1 with the auto
and the downshifts were terrible (rough/laggy)

You're mistaking the auto in the ZL1 for the z06, auto in the z06 sucks.

Even as a pure track mule, I'm not sure I could look at that interior without vomiting regularly. Seriously, what the hell is GM doing in their design department...

Believe it or not I'm not a GM fan at all but those on track numbers and reviews would be the only reason I pick one up.

Not mistaken at all, the car I drove was a 2018 ZL1 with 10 speed auto and the manual downshifts were terrible, huge delay and very abrupt and absolutely not in a good way.

I have a feeling this is why Ford is choosing a DCT tranny for their 2020 GT500 since they could of easily used the same 10 speed auto with was co-developed with GM for their new platform.

OP - please don't forget the 2020 GT500 in your consideration against the ZL1 1LE.
700 hp flat plane crank V8 with blower (sounds amazing), DCT, huge brakes, carbon wheels, wicked aero and looks light years better than the camaro.

Good luck getting a gt500 without paying 10k over sticker or more the first few years. It’ll be like the gt350 but worse. If you want to keep up with a gtr/gt3 why not get a gtr? You can find one for 40k and throw in 10k you’ll make it a track beast.

gt500 will weigh over 4klbs. not a fun track car when they're heavy as a tank.

Agree with the previous posts. I've driven a Z06 auto and that transmission is complete garbage. I've had faster shifts in a Mercedes E350. Go manual for those.

There is a mid engine Vette coming with a DCT. Debut about a month away. Just a thought.

As a pure track mule you rip out the interior anyway so who cares.

Bolt in your favorite steering wheel, seat, and cover up the gauges with your favorite data logger dash and you won't have to look at the the GM interior anyway!

What are anyone's thoughts?
What were the specs on your track M4 and how much money did you put into it? Were you up against stock GTRs/GT3s?

What are your driving skills like? Have you tried 1on1 instruction with a pro driver?

I don't drive out in Cali so I can't speak to what happens over there. On the East coast though, taking out all the 991 GT3s in a track day is not a particularly hard thing to do.
If it's a GT4 or older generation GT3 (or GT3 RS) it isn't even close.

The ZL1 1LE is a beast for sure, however you may be in a situation where you gain time through mods and better cars vs gaining time through driving. If that's the case I would keep the M4 and spend money on instruction.

Overall I'll say it's disappointing to read M3P and see so many people thing P cars are untouchable. They are absolutely not. Maybe I should make a second youtube account, film from the outside of the car and start posting vids...

I looked around the net and thought I saw a 1:59.9 at Buttonwillow 13cw for OP. If that’s the right set of results, I saw in that same club times for gt3rs doing 1:56, And camaro doing 1:50 that maybe is why OP is intrigued

I also saw vids of 146whp Miata doing 1:55s in that config

For what it is worth, I definitely feel you OP. I just started in spec Miata this year and it’s rough being so far behind and trying to get up to speed.

First I would like to congratulate you mate!

Frankly speaking as much people are comparing both cars, they shouldn't because both cars are built for different purposes!

I have said it before many times and I will say it again! m3/M4 the best sports daily car in the world!

I'd say close to 25k was spent in suspension, brakes, wheels, seats, roll cage, every possible engine bolt on, BM3 w/custom E85 tuning, exhaust, suspension tuning (corner balancing) and complete aero package (APR).

Here's a decent video of how it was:

Thanks. I do better at high speed tracks such as AutoClub but can't for the life of me get the car dialed in at lower more technical tracks.

I love your video, reminds me of how much fun Texas World Speedway was! Nothing beats blasting onto a high bank or back from a high bank back into the interior road course.

Ok here's my assessment, please don't take anything personally just my experience with running with Speedventures at ACS.

I've done ACS with my F80M3 BONE STOCK and you're hitting about the same speeds as me, maybe a little bit faster on the long sections. I hit about 140mph on the banked oval and about 125mph on the inside section straight coming out of the hairpin before eventually braking.

I think you need to push the car harder, especially if you're running r compound and have a serious setup like you described.

Just to give you an idea, the GT3s will hit 170mph on the banked oval at ACS.

Not sure if you have a video of yourself running at willow springs but that
would be helpful as well.
