I recently bought a f82 M4, and enjoying the heck out of it stock.. but i think the time has come for the mods and power to begin. Ordered some VRSF Catless downpipes, and looking to get a tune.
Who is the best s55 tuner? I know alot of people go with CaryTheLabelGuy or F80Paul. Leaning more towards the F80Paul tune but wanna hear out the community's experiences! |

There's a lot of different factors and the "best" tune depends what you're after. For me the best tune was from my long time tuner at Bend Calibration who spends the time to hone the whole car to what I as the customer am looking for and in a safe, reliable manner. Even though BM3 was available for flash tuning, based on my interest in running true flex fuel Ecutek was recommended to me. Needless to say I continue to be impressed by the improvements to my throttle mapping, power, and drivability. A canned tune is sometimes what people like...for me it was a complete, bespoke tune for myself.
OP - Paul Johnson, Halim Cazimi and Cary Jordan are the most well known and obviously their history speaks for them so I think you should choose the tuner right for you.

Find a tuner that you feel comfortable with. BM3 has plenty to choose from. All of the ones mentioned above are awesome to dial it in for you and hold records all over.

One major issue I had with Cary was that he advertises/promises 2 hours of remote dyno tuning (this was important to me). In fact his website provides an explicit example (dyno graph) showing the value of remote dyno tuning versus just road logging. When it was time to deliver, he deemed it not necessary and did not deliver to promise.
"2-free hours of remote dyno tuning included, what is this and how does it work?" = A Lie or False Advertising The tune (S55 E85) itself is very decent although I do feel my trap speed is down. If I ever decide to get another comparative tune, I will have a lot more light to shed. And my advice/insight to the OP, probably all the tuners claim a very short turnaround time between revisions - The reality is that the tuners can be extremely busy so the expectation of getting a custom tune in a short time might disappoint you. All the best - A Custom tune is definitively the way to go... |

I actually had the opposite experience with Cary. I had turbos installed, had him ready to tune the car and it has some serious troubles. Turns out one of the wastegates was malfunctioning, but wasn't throwing any codes. We went through several tests, two sets of wastegates and 2 sets of turbos and he was there the entire way. I'd have to think he had 8+ hours on my car and still just charged for the 2 custom tunes I asked for.
As far as power goes I asked for a conservative track based tune. I suspect all the top tuners can put out about the same maximum power, it just depends on how close to the knives edge you want to be. Tunes aren't black magic from that standpoint. Smoothness, throttle response, driveability can be to some extent.

I went with F80 Paul mostly because of his results and customer service. He is quick to respond and easy to work with. I highly recommend him. We got 591/640 on a dynojet on E85.

How you liking the tune? And have you ever raced a cary tuned s55? Want to see how they both compare. I think cary has the 60-130 record right now if im not mistaken

We see a lot of tunes on the dyno and use Jordan Tuning (Cary) for a number of our builds.
Check our threads for dyno info and build sheets.

I used Alex with Alpine for my stg 1 & stg 2 93 OCT tunes which were superb. Made great power and felt smooth. I wanted more power so I went with Cary Jordan for my e85 tune. Definitely like night and day running e85 instead of 93 OCT. Both Alex and Cary are very knowledgeable in tuning. Both are friendly and will help you out at anytime.

i resisted the bm3 wave for so long, messing with oft and bpm, never being happy and reverting back to stock tune
what a waste of time, running the bm3 cs+ tune it's perfect in every way, driveability, power delivery, adjustability |
