There are reports of SCH with the crank bolt tight. Hence the CBC would not help in these cases.

tom @ eas does a good job of explaining the three ways the crank hub can slip in this post. The Crank Bolt Capture really only solves one of these issues, which is why it is not a complete solution.

For all we know, the CBC fixes this issue completely. Until someone spins with the CBC installed, we really don't know if it works or not. It's a waiting game now.... who's gonna win the "Spun my hub with CBC" award first? I'll donate $100 to the first person who does it.
Haven't seen a Mineral White car with a SCH, but this doesn't this mean all MW cars are safe.

Without answers, we're seeing the forum starting to come up with their own. Both the SplineLock and Crank Bolt Capture are designed to work together.

Hopefully, no one collects on the $100.

Hasn't the Capture been out since 2017 ?

Its assumed, not verified. Nobody had measured the torque settings on the crank bolt after a slip. It could be on tight, but still looser than specs. Mechanic removing the bolt would still have to apply a lot of pressure to remove the bolt.

Just installed CBC this weekend. I just wanted to reduce the odds of SCH since most SCH happen from bolt coming loose.
Fairly cheap to install too.

Yes....blah blah blah it's not the complete fix.
Lol 😆

S55 has been in production for a long time. If this simple CBC was the fix, wouldn’t bmw have used it for the minor cost? The bed plate appears to be the only update to the s55 which points to harmonics and vibration.

BMW is the one who designed the part which has a small % failure rate So maybe the bean counters don't think its worth changes.

I believe the new engine series has a different setup, they went back to the older more reliable design.

Gentleman for what it's worth h2 motors in Germany installs their own cbc and they offer a 1 year warranty for hub slippage if they install it. They told me they haven't had any come backs after a cbc even on high powered cars

It could be the success of the CBC........or it could be the comparatively small occurence rate to begin with, which does not match the frantic response on this forum.

Be that as it may, apparently they can stand behind their 170 euro product and offer a warranty against spun crank hubs while every single other company with even more comprehensive products won't warranty a single thing.

After finding this out, I went ahead and ordered 9 of them but then realized these bolts are probably not long enough to account for the thickness of the bolt capture. Then I sent an email to H2 Motors (German guys) asking the part number. Here's their reply:

"Hello,

nice to read that you like our videos, thank you! Many competitors simply copied our work, therefore we would like to keep this as our little secret.

Sorry, but we can not tell you the number. The screws have the same strength as the original screws, they are just 5mm longer to compensate the thickness of the lock.

Kind regards
"

Long story short, they use the same OEM strength bolts but theirs are slightly modified in length, hence not really OEM. I think I'll just stick with the bolts that VTT provides.
As per H2M doco they use M8 x 25mm Grade 10.9 (i'm assuming 1.25 pitch). From a quick search most of the BMW torx bolts are grade 8.8 or 10.9. Pure generalisation looks like the shorter stubby bolts are 8.8 and the longer ones 10.9 (or depends where used)

IMO this is the same bolt https://www.bavauto.com/bmw-bolt-11427542983 however unable to confirm if grade 10.9

Negligible but i would rather use the OEM style bolt as there is no washer. In other solutions the washer is not centred to the bolt from a balance perspective. Probably will make sweet fa difference in the bigger picture.

If any of the above is incorrect chime in.. as there are some assumptions

This is good info, thanks However, after seeing Chris@VargasTurboTech response on their bolt specs here I've decided to go with the VTT supplied bolts. I'll get my CBC installed next week.
