Car key got lost in vent under seat
I know they were cutting weight but put a grill on that vent!!i was told to get it out they would have to remove the seats and carpet. I didn't even ask if that was covered by warranty, hopefully so since there's not a designated secure place to put the key when in operation.

I once had this on our last gen X5. My daughters phone fell onto the floor, and down the vent, ending up in the footwell on the passenger side, under the carpet. A suitable length of bamboo cane, and some sticky masking tape rolled around one end, did the trick of retrieving it, and a little patience, good luck.

Out of all the F8X cars in operation, this is a first so I'm going out on a limb and assuming you just didn't secure your fob very well? The cupholder is a VERY good place to put the fob if you don't have pockets or a purse or under your thigh (where your cell phone probably is) or any other suitable place.

IT will only work with the key outside the car.

The car starts without a key now, a plus. But I cant lock it without bringing my spare key and since it starts without it sometimes I forget to bring the spare. it will lock and stay locked with the spare. One reply was correct it wasn't secure, I drive the car and have fun with it so this may be the first but def not the last person to have this happen.

not the cars fault, but if the car didn't have a hole that can suck up the key to it.....to me design issue. Not a huge deal, not the end of the world by any means.....but an easy fix from factory that would probably cost under a dollar. I lost a key in my old '11 m3 same way they got out for me no problem but in an 07 m6 I had they couldn't retrieve the key from the same place and it remained there even after I traded the car in. I can't believe not many have this issue it's happened to 3 of my 4 m cars. Maybe my fault but if was a different design it would happened to me 0 times.

They all have pockets in their pants. Their keys do not fall out of said pockets (on account of pockets are made to hold things like keys....) Isn't that where you put the key? unless.....................................are you driving around without pants bro?

Hmm.. center console, cup holders, cup holder cover tray, compartment behind the cupholders where 12v plug is, door side pockets .... oh, you are right - none of those are secure as they have no locks on them.

This thread is hilarious.
But seriously, before you go ripping crap out of your car and pay the stealership a ton of money, just get a plumber with the fiber optic snake things to retrieve the key.. It will cost a lot less and you won't be pulling your car apart. Can't believe the stealership didn't advise you this. Amen, bro. I stack my hundreds like a bible in one pocket, and my iPhone 6 Plus in my other pocket. So my key has no room

Looks like a great market opportunity for an entrepreneurial vendor. I would buy a vent grate.
