2015 M4 Glovebox Latch Issue

BMW experts,

So, I'm a new owner of a '15 M4 and the car is more than what I dreamed about. The car is flawless except that the glovebox latch won't open. It seems that the previous owner had the glovebox latch locked and then tried to forcefully open it, which broke an internal piece of the latch. The latch either locked or unlocked won't open the glovebox. It seems as though when I try and use the handle to open the glovebox, the missing/broken piece isn't there to unlock or release the glovebox.

I would like to fix it myself, but it seems as though it might be a more delicate problem that I should let a BMW dealership fix it. I've seen online where I can purchase OEM glovebox latches, but is it worth it for me to fix myself?

I'm new here on bp and if you think I should post elsewhere or if you have helpful online resources, I would greatly appreciate it if you let me know.
