Check engine light

What's up everyone,

Got a check engine light on my BMW and I was wondering which scan tool should I get to see what's going on. The cheapest and best way to see what's going on. Or if anyone in the North Jersey area can scan my car to let me know? Can give you some loot for the info.

Can't stop by an AutoZone to give you a free CEL diagnosis?

Double entendre haha. Seriously though, a few years back I forget which case but BMWNA was facing some sort of lemon law suit, their engineers actually testified that when the cars aren't driven hard enough it causes problems.

Also some light around the fact that a few hard pulls every now and then can clear up the carbon buildup in the exhaust system, that sometimes clears up whatever sensor is causing the CEL, making the CEL go away.

idk what happened but it worked. I even ordered a Wifi OBD reader and downloaded OBDfusion on my iPhone. The OBD reader is out for delivery but I don't need it anymore now. lol. thanks for the advice.

No problem.....just an FYI the car actually stores fault codes. If the OBD reader is out you might be able to see what the exact fault was that triggered the CEL

Heads up, P0456 is notoriously linked with a faulty gas cap.....maybe take a jab at having that replaced?

I've done this with my BMW bike too. Put some good gasoline and ride the fuck out of it and it goes away. Weird.

Yeah I tightened the gas cap. Everything is good for now. I'll keep and eye on it. The CEL came on a couple of days after the I got gas makes sense.
