Do a search. There are a few good threads in the Mechanical section.

Basically any oil that has LL01FE or LL01 approvals will work. Don’t worry too much about grade unless you get below -20C where you are. In this case you have to stick with 0W-XX oils.

For daily use and hard driving:
- BMW TPT 0W-30 Ll-01FE or
- Motul Specific 0W-30 LL-01FE or

For daily use and 1 or 2 track days:
- Motul 8100 X-cess Gen2 5W-40
It’s not a FE oil, but also a little thin for a 40 weight oil (closer to 30) the 5W “winter weight” is ok for -15F or -20F cold start, but not colder.

I do not like LiquiMoly. They’re great at marketing but just okay on oil quality. Motul and BMW are top quality oils. For other recommendations read up on our member Edycol and learn from the wisdom he shares.

I'm a little confused (genuinely) why people keep saying the Motul 5w40 is a lightweight 40? I ran Pennzoil Euro 5w40 this time and it definitely has lower numbers (40/100C) than the Motul with similar HTHS but is still higher than the heavy 30 weights. It's seemed like the Motul is a regular or even heavy 40.

I used Castrol Edge Euro 0W-40 for my last change because it's readily available from Walmart.

Same. After hours of reading, and recommendations by oil dorks here, it was an easy choice for my piece of mind. The car seems to be happy running it. I have yet to have to add a drop after a few thousand miles and I am about to hit 100k miles...

good luck with your choice!

I used Pennzoil ultra platinum 0-30 for regular driving. Actually had less wear metals during my last change from bmw oil. Surprised the people at Blackstone with the results
