How good&long spot repaint last?
Hi guys
I got mysterious debris from nowhere hit my car on rear fender near gas door. Decent 1 inch dent, lose paint down to metal with some scratches around the dent. I went paintless dent fix and outcome was nice but 2 inch long scratch. Plan to do spot re paint. Asked reputation spot paint shop, they said they can paint just about 10inch square on scratches and not repaint whole panel. I really have no idea how good is this, I just dont want to damage factory paint unnecessarily. Ok AW is not hard to match but how long new paint last? I'm afraid in later years, the fixed area wont fade accordingly with factory paint and show big mismatch paint. Any thought sir? |

How long it lasts is all in the prep work and the skill of the painter. As far as AW being easy to match, last time I checked there are more than 50 shades of AW and it is actually fairly difficult to match well. The other thing that will be hard to match is the factory orange peel. A good painter should be able to blend it fairly well though.

How about the line and curve, will the painted area reflect the light in same manner as before? In the pic i took after paintless dent fix and touch up, you still can see the light reflection line still not good even though the surface smooth and cant see in any light conditions. Undamaged area (1-4 inch from the center of dent and scratches) act weird Not sure if it's normal there |

It is hard to to see based on the pictures, but it really is up to the skill of the painter and how well they prep the surface along with how they finish it after. A good wet-sanding, while diminishing some orange peel will bring uniformity to the area. I am not a painter, but an avid detailer and I have seen all levels of paint repair.

Have it inspected by a few reputable paintless repair shops as well. A skilled tech might be able to remove it and there would be no need to worry about having it painted.
