Yeah I figured I'd get told to download something and let him remote pilot it.

He is usually very quick to respond to email but I'm not in a hurry either way.
Just want to make my M the best M it can be while maintaining some OEM comfort and power levels.
Nothing like OEM+ my guy

I'd do the full CS + MP HAS retrofit if I had EDC from factory

Already got everything set up for Friday it seems. Scheduling the time now as timezones are iffy!
Alex will refund the shipping as it was indeed the cable it seems!

Can't wait, feels like christmas!

If the grilles don't bother you, upgrading to the G8x is the easiest decision you'll make as an M enthusiast. Unlike the E46 or E9x, there's no unique draw of the F8x that slows down the decision to make the switch.

No, it doesn't drive heavy, soft, or do any other negative thing that those skipping this generation seem to hope.

The G8x is meaningfully better than the F8x, as you would expect. As far as driving dynamics are concerned, it's Playstation 5 and the older cars are Playstation 3 (F80/82) or 4 (M2C).

Just so you understand where people like me stand:
1) I think its expected that overall, on measurable metrics, the car should perform better

Will this convince me to upgrade? No.
1) Personally against the new tech layout; its fussy and overdone. I've spent time in the new gen 3 series and they are just distractions (tech wise)
2) Still dimension wise, too big a car for me. A fast and agile boat, but still a boat.
3) The looks? Enough said.

I admire your deep seated defense of the car. Enjoy it in good health, but it's not the car that I'm lookin for.

Saw another G8X in person!

But seriously… can we all collectively agree to kill this color already? I swear my vision gets worse every time I see it on any car

I like how Cammisa said the new M4 was so f*cking ugly they decided not to film it. They went with the M3 for driving shots.

Interesting how he describes the S58 as laggy and the torque converter auto hides the lag, while the lag shows itself with the manual.

A lot of the "grip feel" you are finding can be attributed to latest tire technology, as well as low-to-the-ground bucket seats if you have them. Good chunks of lap times are tire and seat dependent. On a track, some of us are finding the comp spec is actually slower than F80 due to weight and transmission.

Man that old DTM footage is $. Quality video.

Base with the faster lap time. Do we have any real world weight #'s for base vs. comp?

Sure, the tires are tuned/developed for the G8X to take advantage of all of the tweaks made to the new car (…just as they were for the F8X, E9X, etc.), but it's not just tires.

I'm sure some of the difference is tires (I have PZero on mine, though). Randy Pobst is an accomplished driver and his exact quote is, "[The G80] is the best handling BMW I've driven in 10 years." He also made it clear what he thought of the F8x. I'm pretty sure he can tell whether it's just tires and seats that make up the difference.

Non-CS F8x cars are not Sport Cup 2s away from matching the G8x.

While I have friends and family at New Century, I also know their prices are generally a tad bit higher compared to a place like Monrovia BMW, BMW Riverside and Irvine BMW.
Yeah, and in fairness to Sedan_Clan's point both things can be true: dealerships talking ADMs *AND* emailing out under-MSRP offers, even on cars they don't have.

Anec-data time!
Years back when the Audi Allroad first came out, we hadn't heard of it but were in the dealership for service work talking to the head of sales we were friendly with ... in the middle of the showroom was the new Allroad, roped off, with an ADM sign on it. Of course I couldn't resist the "whatthefuck is THAT!"

Long story short, I check it out, love it, but ADMs were unheard of then and my wife immediately shot it down - well the sales guy said, "Oh that's just for people who come in looking for it or call about it ... I can deal with you guys..."

I don't remember what price we walked out with but it wasn't any worse than the A6 we traded in for it.

And ANOTHER!
Six months ago I emailed a dealership an offer on a 45e, I get an email the next day saying the best they can do is 3% their dealership policy max because market, demand, blah blah blah. Two hours later I get ANOTHER email from a DIFFERENT sales person offering 6% off.

Point being, wouldn't be odd at all for a single dealership to offer drastically different prices, i.e., to have the inquiry price vs ad hoc price or for separate sales people at the same dealership to offer different prices depending on where their individual sales numbers are.

We tend to think of dealership as monoliths when really they're just a bunch of mercenaries at the same location.

And if 2 people show up, but 20,000 people go, well ... it'll be a problem.

None of us will be surprised if, next year, van Hooydonk & Dukec are spending lots of time with family.

Seriously - would you be surprised? If your answer is "no" then even you aren't that confident in this design experiment. (we know BMW isn't due to the X3m refresh).

And TBH, here's what I've learned from BMW's design debacle:

I used to sport drive (not track) every week (quit for covid), frequently running against others, and did so for a decade - those were 80% of my M4 miles - timing using apps, but not super accurate. In short more happy fun time than serious track stuff like maybe CanAutM3 or minn19, but still, performance was / is important.

Well, as it turns out, performance is about 30% and looks about 70% - because I can still have just as much (if not more) fun in an E92 which is slower than my F8x - the key is I LOVE walking up to those cars ... they LOOK fast, they look badass, and my fun starts THERE.

Before I ever start the car, I'm grinning ear-to-ear ... when I walk out of the grocery store I'm grinning ear-to-ear ... when I drive to work, when I stop at the post office, when I get takeout, when make up an excuse to go somewhere just so I can see the car ... and every time I fight the urge to look back ... I fucking LOVE that.

With the G8x I'd be fearful to look at it:
To see it's jumbled chaotic lines, its oversized beaver face, its prolapsed anus, its honda accord profile, its charger hood, its weird double toyota trunk line ... I'm just not gonna pay for something I hate to look at, especially when there are so many better options.

So, TBH (1.) I'm vain (70%), and (2.) I care more about fun than performance.

I mean, I never want to pay for a sports car where 99.9% of people say what I'm thinking, "oh yeah, that modded Camry looks WAY better"
