Plastidip OEM diffuser?

I wonder if anyone has done this to their car? I want some contrast for the rear but still want to be able to kick open trunk.

I've been surprised by the look of plastidip when done well. Not sure how long it would last in that location though.

Funny, I was just thinking of this as well. Really can't hurt to try.

It doesnt look nearly as good as a proper diffuser. I had it for a little while before getting a diffuser off ebay (I can still use the trunk kick feature).

Not plastidip but I’ve ran a painted rear diffuser on 2 of my F80’s now and I love the look. It’s clean and classy but adds aggression to the rear end. Arguably more rare than the MP diffuser too.

Diffuser is one part that I plastidipped without hesitation. Plus it takes 2 minutes to remove. I have done 4 coats plus 2 coats of glossifier. Looks great

It's holding up great, money well spent!

I originally just had a plain black oem diffuser (I got a BSM one from a member here) but it didn't give me the look I hoped it would. Once I saw the inexpensive eBay one I thought I would give it a try and am happy I did.

OP I highly recommend looking for a vinyl wrap solution. It would be inexpensive as well but would hold up better in the long run. I have plastidipped many things, and almost every time have regretted it. Not that it looks bad, but after a while it looks like the "temporary solution" that it is.

I dont have a close up of the diffuser itself, but a quick rear end pic attached. I have also plastidipped many things on various cars and yes, it is not the best long term solution. But, from my experience, if plastidipped correctly, it will hold up great for over 2 years at least. As does the kidney grill on my X5.

I am not sure I agree 100% The level of effort to wrap the stock diffuser is not worth it in my opinion. Plus, Ebay carbon fiber diffusers are running in $180-220 range.
Plastidip is $6 solution with minimal effort.

Although, I havent used vinyl wrap myself. If it costs ~$6 and takes 30min of work, then it can very well be a better approach.

I'm with this guy, my local wrap shops gave me quotes from $100 to $200 just for that small piece, I was going to wrap it myself but meh. So I ended up getting the painted fin style diffuser for $195, hopefully it'll let me keep the trunk open feature cuz I use it a lot.

I've just had such a terrible experience with Plastidip that I refuse to get that stuff anywhere near my cars anymore. It is a cheap way to get the diffuser black sure, but I would rather take the time to wrap it. Wrapping isn't that hard if you take your time and have a heat gun.

My first order of business was to black out the god-awful ugly exhaust canister. Why it doesn't come blacked out from the factory is beyond me.

20-30 in material.. would take 20 minutes to wrap it and you have to pull it off regardless.

Get quality film and it’s much easier than you would think. 3m or Avery
