Well, thanks to the OP got mine to work. I have a 2016 which was just delivered 2 days ago. Exec package, Adapt susp, DCT (just listing these as they are electrical type options.) I am not sure what the issue is. The rain sensor plug is much shorter. Maybe the pins arnt long enough to tap into the (+)greenbrown and (-)brownblack are the ones most people use. I tried it several times and was jamming it in there as far as it would go.

The moment I used the rain sensor red to red, Black to brown it turned right on. Not sure if the tap is supposed to slip so freely in there or if its supposed to be tighter. Maybe the pins are too thin. Not really sure. All I know is that it works with the rain sensor tap.

What color tap are you using? V1s hardwire kits come with a blue tap, which is meant for 12-16AWG wiring and much too big. We typically toss them out and use the red scotchlocks which are meant for the smaller 18-22AWG.

We cover the steps on our DIY here, the steps apply to MY16+ also: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1026319

I have a late 2015 build and had the same issue, had to use the rain sensor tab. Thanks to the OP and to EAS for both of the install threads, helped me out a lot. Cheers.

At first, I used mirror tap pins into the mirror wiring harness and it worked with intermittent issues - then it completely stopped working. I bought some red scotchlocks and that did the trick.

For what it's worth I have a '16 I picked up ~2 weeks ago, and I tapped greenbrown/brownblack fine. I did have some issues until i really forced the pins all-the-way in. I'm running the passport max, so perhaps the Valentine draws more power?

Done in literally 10 minutes. Worked like a charm. Thanks!

The only downside is that the Valentine will turn off, but delayed after accessory power shuts off. So I can lock the car and a few small LED's will stay on around the console...it took several minutes before the power on the Valentine finally turned off automatically but it will do it.

I hope this is helpful!
How did you split the plastic shroud that is closest to the windshield?

Literally you just yank it apart. It's a bit unnerving but that's what you have to do. I was nervous as hell but it does just pull apart.

Push on the center to separate the halves before pulling apart.

MY15/16 has used the same pinout, we follow the same steps here in the shop.

Have not had the chance to install a radar detector on a MY17 yet.

I installed my V1 using the instructions and wiring given by Tom on my 2017 M4 and it worked perfect.

Thanks for the update, much appreciated.

I think a lot of these issues are with the size of the leads on the mirrortap harnesses (we don't use them), they are a bit too large to fit into the the connector housings and possibly not reaching the terminal pins. A continuity test with a multimeter would verify for sure.

Having read the thread, I never bothered to try to tap it from the mirror. I did as OP suggested, and it worked like a charm.

Tom for the tenth time a multimeter was used, in several ways. Just offer a suggestion on your steps and stop questioning whether people are seating the leads properly. I'm fairly certain people know how to push a wire into a terminal housing. Yeesh!!

Did you mount your escort to your mirror? What did you use for a mount?

Is there a video showing how to do this and how to put them back once done? Haven't been able to find any.
Thanks.

What about users who want to use V1 connection?

Add a fuse in back instead?

Lots of people have been asking about how to mount. I decided to use the suction cup from my V1 and it's perfect! Anything hanging under the rear view mirror would interfere with visibility and stick out like a sore thumb...there's a corner that to me fits the V1 well. Enjoy
