DME FULL

Good afternoon y'all,

I have been having issues with my f80 for the last few days, so I decided to bring it to the dealership. Unfortunately, I learned that my DME is full. I remember seeing something on the forums a while ago about being able to reset your dme, but I have no clue what to do. I don't want to spend a couple thousand dollars for a new one but I need my car back asap.

What? What do you mean your DME is full?

I have never heard of any car requiring a new DME due to 'fullness'. The DME is not a hard drive that gets filled

I'm not sure, all I know is my car has been having issues and the dealership told me it's because the dme is full and that I need a new one

DME cannot be full!

Your gas tank can be full. Your stomach can be full. Your USB drive can be full but not DME.

DME does have a flash counter that to my knowledge has a limit, maybe that is what you are talking about???

What is wrong with your car that the dealership feels the need to update your DME?

Have you been playing around with different tunes (and are those what's cause your issues)? If you reach the flash counter limit (60) then dealer SW may not flash your DME anymore. You'll need to get a specialist to reset the counter, dealers don't have that capability.

This is not something any coder can handle. Mike@BPMSport is the help you'll need for any advanced DME diagnostics/recovery.

I encountered this on previous platform, ECU has flash limit as well as TCU (DCT launches) but the tuning removed the DCT limit.

Is 60 the actual flash limit? This is the first time I'm hearing a specific number. That seems pretty low and I'm surprised more people haven't hit it

I think tunes such as BM3/MHD automatically install a counter stop once unlocked. So you can flash as many times as you want without the counter increasing. Once you lock the DME and restore to stock, the flash counter only increases by one.

The modules in this car have a flash limit. When it reaches the limit, you can’t program them with ISTA.

Bm3 inhibits the module tamper code, but the flash count goes up every time you flash something.

He brought it to the dealer. Dealers have a different version of ISTA that’s totally online, and will update any out dated modules. It just failed in the dme because the flash counter was at the max.

It only affects the ability to be flashed with ISTA.

+1, most flash tunes only overwrite the tuning tables - not affecting the flash counter.

So in that case, how do you get to 60?

You wouldn't, unless you're doing a complete reflash (not map changes).

I'll just leave this here to serve as a reminder of the platform's history.
