New Comer! - 997.1S to F80 M3

Hello Everyone!

Just wanted to drop a quick note to introduce myself. My name is Gabe. I was on this forum (not a very regular contributor) back when I had my 335i.

I just got into a Mineral Grey F80 a couple days ago coming from a 997.1S. I feel like this car is much more my speed than a 911 at this stage in my life. To me, the Carrera says that I've already made it in my career and this is my way of treating myself to a nice sports car that's a little less practical, but who cares...! I didn't feel like I was quite there and that I haven't made enough of a name for myself in my field to be seen in a Porsche.

The M3 is a bit more low key, and to most, it doesn't look all that different from any other 3-Series. It does't draw the attention the Porsche did, and I think to me, that's kind of a good thing.

I'm planning on keeping the car bone stock since I did run into some problems with the 335i after I installed JB4 and no other recommended mods to account for the added demands it placed on the car... Long story short, the car let me know that it wasn't up to handling that kind of stress.

Anyway, just wanted to say "hi" and to announce that I've officially joined the M-Family for the first time - and it's been wonderful thus far!

Good call. Nothing says "Look at me" more than a guy in a 911 (unless it's a track car).

Welcome to the best forum with the best cars .....

Post some pics or, as we say, it didn't happen.

Mineral Gray M3 here. I park her out of sight at work so no unneeded perceptions.

Welcome!! you're going to love the F80 experience. I've owned a lot of cars, and the F80 just does a lot of things right.

Welcome! Post some photos! (of the 911 of course!) haha

Interesting perspective on the 911. As I get older, I finally start to understand that 911 ownership will be sweeter once X, Y, and Z "adult" choices are accomplished.

I'll be sure to wave at you when I see you trekking down South St.

Nice and welcome! I'm actually doing the opposite lol. Looking into a 997.1 or .2 S.

What was the Pros/Cons when you had the Porsche?

Wow, people usually go the other direction into a Porsche lol. Congrats and enjoy it! MG looks awesome; and not being biased when I say that because I had one.

Knowing what I know now, I would have skipped Bmw and gotten a 964 back when they were cheap used cars

IMHO, go with some variant of turbo or GT, and sooner the better

That said, I see where you are coming from OP. No one needs drama at work.

Congrats and welcome

No kidding... a 997.1S can be picked up for 30k?

Now if you said 997.2T or 991S I'd understand

Congrats!

I went the "other way" too recently

I gave up a 991 for an X6M because of the birth of our baby earlier this year, and also needed to transport my bikes around and get to the mountains for snowboarding

Haven't yet driven an F80 M3, but have spent many hours driving friends' E36, E46, and E92 M3's, as well as an E39 M5
While the M's were enjoyable, they were nowhere near as fun as the 991 and a previous 987 Boxster, so I'm not expecting the F80 to make up for the 991

The X6M is enjoyable in its own way, but I miss driving a manual, and about the only choice with 4 doors and perhaps enough room for an infant car seat/stroller system is an M3
So I'm on this forum reading posts to help me decide what to do
I may end up waiting until our child is big enough for a front facing seat then go back to a 911

The Porsches did get a lot of attention, but pretty much all positive, and maybe the haters just kept quiet

Unlike watches, where a $8-9k Rolex may garner unwanted attention while a $30k Patek or Audemars goes unnoticed, hard to hide cars, but at some point, if you really love something, just gotta go with it
