Looking to add a car to supplement M4

I love my F83 and I have no plans to get rid of it anytime soon. It's getting very close to exactly how I like it with Dinan Stage 3, and almost every M Performance part added to it that is available.

However I'd prefer not to daily it. Both because I want to keep it for the long haul (it's a 6MT and I just see those going away). But also because I'd like a more comfortable, larger alternative - especially for the winter months.

Criteria;

- All Wheel Drive. Want to be able to take it into mountain passes in the winter

- Higher on luxury. Little softer feeling, quieter. A real alternative to the modified M4 driving experience which is pretty firm/loud.

- Able to carry 4 adults very comfortably. As in, for a multi-hour drive if necessary. With luggage.

- Still very capable performance wise. I won't be able to tolerate a car that is not fast, and has nimble handling. I don't expect it to match my M4 (though I'm ok if it does) but its got to be quick and nimble.

- I can handle a six figure budget if necessary. At least a bit into six figures. That said I'm completely ok with spending less than that.

Right now I'm thinking that I wait for the new M5, or perhaps a Panamera 4 of some variety. I've always loved M5s so its hard not to take that seriously and wait to see what is revealed. The new M550i has my eye also, but I feel like I need to at least see the new M5 before I commit to that.

Any thoughts? Anything I'm missing?

Photo of M4 BTW;

I like the redesigned Panamera as a good alternative to what you have. With that being said the new M5 will have loads of power that will keep you satisfied

New M5. Done and Done. It's gonna have AWD. Perfect for a mountain/ski car. The Panamera is Fugly as hell IMO.

Good choices. Little concerned the Macan is a bit small in the backseat. Need to have a closer look.

That's been my view in the past. Panameras have looked like big fat pregnant 911s to me until the latest model. The new Panamera platform has much nicer lines.

I love the interior of them. Haven't seen the new M5 yet (obviously) but I'm pretty confident the Panamera is more luxurious. However to get to M5 levels of performance (<3.5 0-60) you're going to spend >$150k. I'm guessing the M5 will be closer to $120. So for me it's probably a ~$120k Panamera which will likely underperform the M5. One of the reasons I'm a bit torn.

As a daily driver / family hauler, I think a BEV or PHEV is really interesting.

Volvo XC90 T8, X540e, Model X, Cayenne E-Hybrid S would be the type of car I'd be interested in

The "super fast family hauler" (e.g. E63S wagon) is a bit of a red herring, since you'll either be solo and should take your toy car, or with family and gear and not in a great position to push the pace anyway.

My opinion, spend the daily driver $ on semi autonomous driving tech, fancy stereo, and keep the performance $ focused on your toy

(bias disclosure: I have an electric Chevy Spark as my daily)

Probably way below what you are looking at, but the new RS3 sedan looks incredible...would be a killer DD IMHO.

Ha. Ya. Not digging that rear end on the older models at all. I could never understand how Porsche was able to build such beautiful sports cars and such ugly sedans. SUVs all look the same to me so no comment on the Cayenne or Macan.

You prompted me to take a gander at the new Panamera and It really does look a hell of a lot better. Even my wife thought it looked pretty good and she's a die hard BMW fan.

Go M5. That sucker is gonna kick some serious ass. I know a lot of people are gonna be pissed about the loss of DCT and AWD but it will be a great car.
