If you take your diffuser off you can mount the clamps upwards so they aren't visible.

We have pictures directly on our website so you can see exactly how far they stick out. I'm not sure why you'd expect them to be any different than what is shown in the advertised pictures.

Agree 100%... nice tips for the $$ and I'd recommend spending an extra 10 minutes to remove the diffuser and install the clamps facing upwards. I needed to drill new mounting holes in the clamping bracket but no biggie. Minor detail, but mine are definitely matte black (which is what i wanted), not flat black.
