Track day results, tyre tire size front clearance
I read most of this thread is search of some track data but couldn't find any so thought I'd share my experience, hopefully it might help others.
Firstly, I wasn't sure about what size tyre I could fit on the front 19" wheels without spacers. 275/35/19 in AR-1 fits fine without rubbing at BMW recommended height on track with big hill and compression. However, a road biased tyre might have issues due to the rim protector. Corner balancing: If you set the car to the recommended BMW heights then the car should be pretty much spot on. Mine was and needed little adjustment for perfect 50:50 balance with driver at 100 kg. Lap times: I wasn't expecting much improvement with these springs. Once fitted and tested with a brand new set of AR-1 tyres the car was nearly a second quicker than it had been on what was previously a 53 second lap, that's a massive difference. I can't say for sure what the difference is as I've never used brand new AR-1 on that track before, only used ones, but can say it's quicker and makes the car feel less heavy. These cars are very quick stock but with spring kit, map, camber, pads and tyres will do ridiculously fast lap times without much compromise to usability. I'd also echo the comments on how nice the springs are on the road, not at all worse than standard and not crashy. |

Can anyone post a picture or take a measurement of the suspension wrench that comes with this kit?
I need to buy a replacement. I purchased a used 2016 M3 on this suspension, and would like to lower it slightly 1/4" maybe 1/2" but the car did not come with the wrench. My Local BMW dealer parts dept said they don't have a part number for it, and he asked around and nobody had one. So even if I brought the car in they wouldn't be able to adjust it down. I was planning on doing it myself and then just take it in for a wheel alignment after. |

Save some money and just use a screw driver
and a rubber mallet. You don't need the wrench.
If you worried about the anodized finish, put a piece of heavy tape over the head of the screw driver head and replace as necessary. |

Thinking about going with the HAS kit. Anyone find decent deals on it? Just checked getbmwparts but not sure if there's better options or pricing. Maybe black Friday?

Do I still need an EDC software update on a 2018 f80 M3 competition or is that for 2015-2017 models only to be able to use the MP HAS KIT which I want to install soon.
I resetlly had the CS EDC software done along with the GTS software for DCT, GHAS, EPS and DSC. I'm I good to go or do I need any other software update done ? thanks, |

[Bonus DIY trick I used] When you do install the HAS (MP or KW) rear upper spring cups (black part, see pic), remove the blue spanner nut, drill a small hole through one side of the black cup (red arrow shows where) and put in a 1 inch long steel torx head screw through into the body metal above. After the install if you need to adjust the spanner nuts the steel screw keeps the cup from spinning in place. Without the screw guys need to take apart suspension again to get weight off the springs before the blue nut will budge.

Or, you could just put some anti-seize on the collar threads during your initial install and future adjustments should not be an issue - it does not take much. This is what I did during my initial install. About 2+ years later, I had no issues readjusting my ride height in the rear (and front as well).

Same... I might swap out from my 5 year old Dinan HAS to M-Perf this year since I need new struts and bushings anyway.

I will receive my HAS today and contacted my indy for a quote. These guys are the most respected in town and I trust their work but $2,150 with alignment seemed really high. There is another indy in town that I trust and I will also hit up the BMW dealer to see what they quote.

Yeah based on what I've heard and seen, that 2k$ doesn't sound bad at all for an install and alignment.

Taking my car in tomorrow for install. I did some measuring to see where it currently sits and this is what I came up with. Remember, this is an M3 CS so I am not sure if the ride height is the same as other F80 M3’s or not. I measured using the bottom of the wheel to fender method.
Front Left - 25 1/4” (641 mm) Front Right - 25 1/8” (638 mm) Rear Left - 24 3/8 (619 mm) Rear Right - 24 1/4” (615 mm) Per the instructions and BMW recommended height, the front (19” wheel) will be lowered to 614 mm (roughly 1” drop) and the rear is strange. According to their recommendation for a 20” rear wheel, they recommend the rear to be at 626 mm which is actually higher than it currently sits. This seems odd to me? Instructions also mention that measurements should be taken by adding 75kg on each front seat which will change things a bit. Last edited by JStang; 11-29-2022 at 08:12 PM.. |
