shocks with clevis mounts noise normal?

Hi Guys,

I recently installed a bilstein clubsport suspension on my car. The rear shocks have top spherical mounts that get connected to clevis mounts mating directly to the body of the car.

I'm hearing what sounds like small knocks in the back (on both driver/passenger side). I'm not sure what this could be, this is a divorced
setup with spring perch/spring + standalone shock. Could it be the bearings
in the shock making noise?

Has someone encountered this before with similar type suspension (MCS, AST, Moton) that use spherical mounts on top of a shock mated to a clevis mount?

SHould I have installed a gasket between the clevis mount and surface of the body mounting point to reduce noise diffusion into the cabin?

Thanks
Steve

You chimed in on my thread, so happy to offer what I found on mine - One of the bushings on the mcs damper was a little out of spec. I had to force it into the spherical bearing when I installed the setup and it was bound up from the get-go. Wasn't moving freely when needed and creating some binding thus creating the noise over small sharp imperfections

Are you referring to the top mount (clevis) where you have 2 bushings or spacers (4 (B) in picture) pressing into the spherical bearing to mount with a bolt+nut?

I have the same setup with bilstein clubsport. I think I remember on one of the shocks the bushings moved in and out freely easily and on the other shock it was a bit more snug.

I attached a picture to make sure that is what you mean.

This is setup similarly on my Nitrons. On initial install I did DIY I had clunks driving to alignment shop coming from the rear. When I got there I had them double check everything and tighten it to spec and all my clunks went away. I'd start there, sounds simple but especially after driving the vibrations got a little worse so I'd just go around and tighten the top mounts!

It was the bottom mount. Not tightened enough.
