What is the status of the brake pad issue?

Having now seen the video, it seems likely the issue is related to the drum-in-hat parking brake and not the brake caliper.
Still, it would be an easy exercise to pull both brake pads and make sure the lining material is still attached the backing plate. I'd suggest pulling the disc and making sure sure the parking brake adjuster didn't back off, which would allow the brake shoes to float (and clack) inside the drum. Keep us posted... this is an interesting one. |

This was common on the e9x but made more of a "cowbell" noise. Not as bad as this. The dealer needs to pull the rotor off and look. Can't believe they gave it back to you with such a bullshit excuse. Rust making this kind of noise? On a brand new car? Bahahahha. |

Spencer25, sorry to hear all the problems, any more news on the 'coke can' sound brake pad issue? Did the pad actually fall off or what was the cause of the noise?

Spencer, I had an identical noise yesterday from the driver side rear. Pulled over to check things out and everything looked fine. I pushed the heat shield back and a rock fell out. Noise gone. Maybe not the same thing but I would bet it is. This has happened a couple of times (happened on my E92 as well)... I'm going to permanently remove the heat shields as they cause more grief than they solve IMO.

If you look at the calipers, the pads are pretty much locked in with pins. Unless they were installed completely incorrectly, I don't think the pad could fall off.

That's what I am thinking as well, so may be the pins were not secured with the cross pins. It looks like OP hasn't updated us yet
