Is old m4 a good choice?
Ok guys tell me why I shouldn’t buy early (~2015) m4 as my new daily!
First I decided to go for 435i and tune it - I would be comfortable with my budget but there is an itch if I’ll stretch my budget a little I can get m4. There are some offers with cpo, ~2015 with 60-70k miles, some has still waranty for next 6 months. How higher are runing costs for m4 than 435i? What major services should be done with this milage. I know it’s performance car and it is expensive but I’m scared that after few months I will have to put 10k for a big repair. I’m doing about 1k miles per month and plan to keep new car for 5 years. |

You should buy the M4, holds better value, so whatever you spend right now it will hold as equity.
You get a proper performance car and these things are bullet proof so far. Just do the proper maintenance. Only real weak spots are top mount intercooler, and the crankhub. Crankhub you can address with a 400 dollar fix in the form of a crankbolt capture plate. If the top mount intercooler isn't leaking then it's fine. The rest is all oil changed and all that maintenance |

If you are planning on keeping it stock then there are no real red flags. As was mentioned if you start tuning it then you will want to address the crankhub and IC.

Check the history through BMW and go for the M4 if you can. Since it's likely been drive hard already you can get away with a CBC for added security. If you tune and go E85 then do a hub fix with CBC.
Enjoy!

The crank plate is 135 dollars canadian and my mechanic is so quick he belts out these plates in 1.5 hours. He does a ton of M cars. But i al saying for a regular mechanic 400 usd all in should be enough. I wonder if you are thinking about the crankhub whole fix. That one would cost 2800 dollars here in canada |

If you plan on leaving it stock and not beating the shit out of it I'd get the M
If you plan on tuning it I'd get the 435, the s55 is extremely reliable stock, things change when you tune it. Crankhub mostly, but other smaller issues (coils chargepipes etc.) become expenses when you're tuned. |

My mechanic has done them for 2800 cad all in. That's like 2k USD. You have to go to a guy that does a lot of them, if they do alot they can cut the time by 30-40% just based on experience. |

No one regrets not buying that 435i when they got a chance, lots regret not buying the M3/M4 though and eventually switch over |

And that is possibly one of the worst feelings in the car world an enthusiast can ever feel. Decide what you want to do, do the research and make a smart decision. Whether you leave it stock or modify it, my vote goes for the M4. If you want to modify it, save up and take the proper precautions/safeguards so you're less susceptible to crank hub issues. Otherwise you'll see one on the street and regret not doing so.

Modding a 435i adds to the costs, maintenance complexity, potential issues, and you may have a hard time figuring out where to stop. Plus, the value plummets regardless of all the money you pour into it.
And after all those mods, it still won't match an M4 in performance, handling, and certainly not value. Overall, the M4 might actually cost you less long term if you were going to go the modding route with the 435i. Buy the M4, keep it stock and enjoy it the way it is. It'll still be worth a decent amount of money when you sell it. Although with the high milaege you do... you might be better off with a 435i, 440i, or another brand entirely, Audi S5 perhaps. But... don't tune them. With that amount of driving you need reliability I imagine, and you're probably not taking it to the race track? Those cars will also be a bit more comfy for long road trips. You're gonna spend a ton of money and time trying to make the 435i look and feel like an m4, and you will never get there. M cars are special, life is too short to get the 435i |
