My money is on most people here liking the G80 in a couple years. I am starting to warm up to it. I still don’t like it as much as my F80, but I felt the same way about the last 3 generations of 3 series since owning an E36... and I’ve ended up owning all of them.

I agree with this heavily. First of all, 95% of G80's on the road will never see a "grill replacement" or bumper replacement like someone said above with their theory.

Second, this car is going to sell like hot cakes. It's such a stunner, hardcore enthusiasts have mixed opinions, but the car has an amazing presence, I do agree that the M4 G82 looks soft but goddamn that G80 M3 looks sharp af. The F8x generation was one of the best designed daily driver cars of all time in my opinion, so maybe that's why the G8x bothers some of you, but I've seen a handful in person and they look mean af. the market (meaning most people that can afford this car and looking for something like it) will buy it.

The hate on this is funny to watch, but everyone's entitled to their own opinion. 3-5 years from now a handful of people on forums might still be moaning about that darn G80 but most of the people making negative comments will probably be driving one.

Can't wait to get myself a 6 speed RWD one in a few years.

Kudos to BMW for keeping the manual & keeping the MSRP of these reasonable. The one I spec'd out as a potential future order is actually the same price as my current f82 with very similar options.

The M8 is trash. BMW overplayed their hand on this one. No one is buying the 8 series vehicles just like no one is buying that lame i8. Don't believe me? Just look at the sales data. The problem is: The M8 is too expensive for what it is. Any informed and self respecting consumer looking to spend $150,000+ on a sports coupe will look no further than Porsche. It's hard to sell a car with no real strategy, poor value proposition and no effective marketing campaign.

I'm trying, time will tell. The M5 might be 4 door do all daily driver of choice over the G80. Better looking and V8.

BTW for me the E46 and F80 were immediate love at first sight. The E9x took some time to warm up to with its softer front lines.

The styling of the F80 upon release was widely accepted. It showcased BMW's willingness to be progressive but stay true to its brand identity. The F80 was demonstrably better than the the E92 in just about every meaningful way. It was lighter than its predecessor, made way more power just about everywhere in the powerband, handled better and the list went on.

The only issue I recall people took with the F80 was the sound and while I believe one could legitimately say the V8 from the E92 sounds better, much of the uproar was sour grapes. E92 owners were pissed their cars effectively became obsolete in an instant. I don't see that happening with the G80. I'm not seeing how it's a clear upgrade.

A little off topic on the M8:

I had a chance to drive one of them @ an M Track day event. It felt big; the power was there but I was confused who the car was for. It had a bespoke interior with fancy stitching, seats etc. a little too nice for someone who would take this to the track and flog it. I dunno, I felt that the interior spoke to someone who just wants an insulated GT car and while the engine etc spoke to someone who wants a driving experience. Clearly not my cup of tea.

Back to back, I like the M5C better on the track and it wasn't about the money. Given a choice, M5C.

Clark_Kent The market is reflecting that. There are used versions with 30-40K off used with less than 1000 mi.

Not a fan of the M8. It tries to be a GT and a Sports Car, and fails to do both. Many other better options in the $140k+ market. BMW just doesn't really do that well in the high-end luxury market in my opinion.

For the "pictures don't do it justice" crowd, I saw one in the flesh yesterday and it is just as bad. I really can't believe BMW did this to us.

I've been looking at these cars a lot, and I *finally* found a color combo which I don't think makes the car look horrible (pictured below). However, I've come across a new issue. Those carbon seats which look so cool on their own look WAY out of place in these cars. The cars aren't wild enough to pass these seats, they just aren't. You can really see how the carbon seats stick out like a sore thumb in this car, its too damned pedestrian and boring for those seats. At least in my opinion hah.
Wow never paid attention to the side vent before and now the crease in the fender is so huge (and less purposeful?) compared to it.

Well, we should all tell Dukec and Hooyodonk about their 20/80 design appeal approach to the new design, "Mission Accomplished!"

I'm in total agreement. The added pork on the car is already bad enough, but to add more salt on the wound, the design is a big departure from classic BMW.
If they think that people like me will eventually 'grow to like the design' and accept the porkiness, they are going to be proven dead wrong.

"The pictures don't do it justice" -- Agreed, ON ACTUALLY HOW BAD IT LOOKS. I've seen one in the flesh months ago.

I was so appalled by the grill when I first saw it, I didn't notice how ugly the headlights are. Absolute garbage design.

Yeah...I can get behind the idea that a COLOR can grow on you, but a DESIGN shouldn't have to grow on you. It's either love at first sight, or it's not.

Honestly, I think the G80/82 is... different, but ok. It definitely stands out.
The grill is growing on me and the interior is a huge step up.

I would say the F80/82 design was that good, which in turn makes a mediocre design like the G80 look worse.

You mention the g8x is a stunner, I disagree with every fiber of my being. So that leads me to ask, specifically, what do you like about the exterior?

The rear end and rear 3/4. The diffuser, tail lights, spoiler, exhaust tips, everything. The exterior of a car is subjective. I can agree the design could've been more Bmw-esque but overall it's a good looking car and most people who've seen it in person and have the financial means to buy one agree.

If you disagree with me on something that is almost entirely subjective, that's fine, lol. A car being a stunner can't be really argued "specifically" , you look it and decide whether or not you like it lmfao.

I still feel that an M4CS or an M4 with M performance parts is the better looking car compared to the G8x but after seeing a few in person I'm a big fan.

Yeah I'm personally accepting G8X for what it is, and not what I want it to be. I think in isolation, I personally don't love it or hate it - kind of homogenous to a lot of other cars out there but I can see why people would/could love it and it definitely starts a convo (for better or worse). I think tho that it's pretty much consensus at this point that when specifically compared to prior M3 generations it doesn't look as good (doesn't mean looks bad), so that's the hold up for some and definitely is/was for me - but my whole attitude now is that those prior generations still exist and nothing is stopping people from buying them!

I remember similar discussion over the E65 (2002 and on 7 series), specifically the trunk. Some of us got used to it, others waited until the redesign...
