Bummer - coolant in my oil!
Today I recieved my Blackstone oil report and apparently the Sodium and Potassium levels are elevated? I bought the car CPO at a BMW dealer in February and just prior to the 5000 mile mark I decided to change the oil and get an analysis to see where this engine was at?
Im researching any and all maintenance records that BMW can give me (I'm the second owner) and then going from there. Anyone have a similar situtation? Any ideas on what to do? Bummed out for sure as The M3 is a replacement for my beloved 330ci which used to give me absolutely perfect reports! Sodium is showing 117 out of a universal average of 6 Potassium is showing 27 out of a universal average of 3 Antifreeze % shows "Positive" Last edited by N55Msport; 05-09-2019 at 09:04 PM.. Your intercooler might be leaking.

On the bright side, it's a CPO. You can just bring it to BMW.

Update: Dropped the M3 off at the dealership with a copy of the oil report and I asked them to pressurize the cooling system and check for leaks with the intercooler etc. Funny part is, the BMW service advisor has never heard of Blackstone before nor had he any idea that one could analyze an oil sample.
Anyways, It's all documented and in their hands, I'll post as soon as I hear from them. |

Classic. It annoys me to no end when an enthousiast knows more about these things than a professional... just shows you the lack of passion/interrest right there. He/she will perform mediocre at best, I can tell you that.

Update: After having my car sit at the dealership for 5 days, they were finally able to pressure test the cooling system and found no leaks. Per Blackstone I'm putting 3000 miles on this oil then sending in another sample.

Blackstone UOA shows no coolant!
After putting 3,000 miles on my oil, Blackstone UOA shows no coolant.
Huge relief. I'll now go back to my regular 5,000 mile cycle. |

Run the engine at operating temps (efficient/sport mode) for an extended period to burn off the coolant too. Just take a long trip somewhere and romp on it. |
