Suitable for tracking on the weekend.

For me, the M3 is the perfect daily. It’s a special car that makes me happy every time I walk up to it and climb in, and even happier when I drive it. I wouldn’t
Get that from an M340i, even though it’s a really good car with good power.

But hey, I get it. It’s a personal preference.
G20 with M Package looks pretty sweet, even I still like how the F80, F82, F83 looks.
Real M car? Okay, I would still prefer an M850I over an M3 even it is not a real M car.
DCT is more fun? Drive a modern ZF as on the F90 and you gonna change your mind.
M Buttons...Okay
Never tracked my M4 in 3 years.

How about things like Auto Hold, Laser Light, the new Instrument Cluster and Infotainment System. Those things are more informant to me on a daily than "be a real M car"

Both car are great...

Yeah, it comes down to preference. I think the F80 is far better looking. Auto hold, meh, it’s a gadget that I don’t really care about. I’m very happy with the infotainment system in the F80. I strongly prefer the analogue gauge cluster. And as far as I can tell, my LCI adaptive led headlights work quite adequately.

Also, you didn’t mention it, but I hate the driver assist stuff, which is why I excluded it from my custom spec Euro delivery M3. I would never use it and I prefer the cubby for my sunglasses

M340i will be faster (and better) for daily duty needs than an F80 ever would be. This is coming from someone who have had three F80s (currently at two) in a single household.

You'll need a lot of room to be able to tap in 50% of the M3's potential, unless hooning in traffic is what you're in to. Those laser headlights alone make the M340i better than an F80 for regular street duty.

With AWD, the M340 will be close to performance of the M3 in real life (sorry magazine racers) but after test driving the M340, I just didn't love it. It's a fine car with a lot of power but walking up to an M3 is an event. The M340 won't impress like that and in the long run, I think that wins out.

If you've never driven an M car, you are in for a surprise. You will most likely never go back.

I like the ambient lighting inside the M340i.

I guess that depends on what you want out of the driving and ownership experience. For me, F80 all the way.

It's a button you can push to engage the parking brake to hold the car in place until you press the accelerator. I actually like the neutral roll of the DCT, sorta like a manual.

Couldn't agree more. I could have purchased the M5, and I still might one of these days, but I wanted the M3 specifically and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Because BMW M3.

I must say that I was a bit underwhelmed by the M340 I drove yesterday. The steering feel is WAY better than an F30’s and the interior and exterior technology is of course WAY better BUT, unless you value the latest tech more than the actual drive of the car, the F80 wins hands down IMO.

Don't say that over at the G20 forums... you will be crucified!

BMW knew long time ago that the M cars are not for people that buy BMW by price or by what other people said. Then after driving it on the road they realized what BMW knew already, an M car was not for you. Thus, the M Sport first and now the M Performance for those people. This protects the brand from unreasonable complaints while giving customers what they did not know they really wanted.

Any time that you think that somehow an M car is a similar choice to an M Sport/M Performance then that means that it is not for you.

My dealer said the new 330s were going for high 700s. If you can snag a M3 of any type for $630, you should go for it. Alas, I think they stop leasing them as of Monday.

I had to take my F80 MT for service and I was lucky that the dealership had the new G20 M340i as loaner. I really liked the interior and the technology. I had no idea what Auto-H is doing until I learned it here. I was also very impressed by its power as well. But but it just didn't feel like an M for me (because it's not a real M). It was just a fast luxury car as opposed to that special feeling I get when I'm in my f80.
