- Water; drink around 12-16oz of fluids between sessions. - Snacks; eat small portions between sessions to keep your glycogen levels in check. You will be physically and mentally challenged all day, and both burn energy fast. - Hat + Sunscreen For the car specifically, I would just say: - Don't be afraid to use efficient throttle, I prefer it on track for mid-corner throttle balance / adjustments. - Don't be afraid to dial back the DCT, I exclusively use S2 and never S3. - Don't drive over your limits - F8X is a lot of car to handle and can get you into trouble very quickly, so don't push yourself into uncomfortable territory. For the day: - Get a ride with someone fast (usually an instructor) so you can understand the type of speeds that you will work up to over time. - I assume you have an instructor, but if you don't, definitely get one. Not only do they teach you how to drive on track but they also provide invaluable commentary on the track itself (where to put the car, what lines to take, what to look for, etc.) It's gonna be a lot of sensation coming at you very fast all day, but it's going to be a lot of fun too. Go out, stay relaxed, and enjoy the day. You will come out of it a better driver.

All great advice by RugbyBro. Though you didn't ask specifically, I'll throw out a comment on traction control. If it's dry for your track day (and your instructor is OK with it), consider starting with it fully off, right off the bat. Some may disagree on this, but assuming you respect your limits and lack of experience as a beginner, and therefore start slow and are deliberately gentle with your inputs (as you should be), this is the best way to learn, and will prevent you from ever developing bad habits as a result of the nannies doing things for you (that often in the beginning you're completely oblivious to). The healthy fear of having DSC off will force you to concentrate on being smooth. As long as you take it easy to start, know the line reasonably well and don't do anything obviously stupid, the chances of you spinning on a dry track are pretty darn low at this stage.
Do what is comfortable for you of course, but my $0.02 Have fun! |

S3 seems to upset the car on track because of the fake jerk they put in. I have a basic Comp so the CS may be different but I know a lot of people have told me to get the GTS programming to help this.
I was at a track with a high speed downhill right onto the start finish and the S3 made the upshift for the start finish rather sporting.

bimmercode is great.
From what I can recall, I enabled folding mirrors when locking, flashing brake lights under hard braking, turn off seat belt lights and buzzer, puddle lights on in reverse, rear camera turns on automatically when car rolls backward, inner tail lights always on (like a rear DRL .. I guess I am paranoid about being rear ended). Halo brightness adjustment and yellow corners can be turned off too. I am sure there is other cool stuff too ..

When they bite, they bite hard. My car on Cup2's gets happy tailed every chance it gets, it's a throttle dance right around 5k rpm. Waiting for me to slip and send me into a ditch.

Super Sports are terrible on this car, no traction at all.

My buddy who isn't on the forums is listing his M3 CS for sale soon.
SMB, 20,6xx miles, exec package, clean carfax (no accidents/paintwork - can provide recent carfax report as well). Have a bunch of high res pics available as well. Just professionally detailed/paint corrected. Located in Menlo Park, CA. Kinda unsure of how to price this cause there weren't a ton of recent sales but asking $71.5K. Will probably go on autotrader soon. DM for more info! |

I have MPSS on mine and I can state from experience that they are horrible. Any WOT on an unprepped surface, even with traction control on, they spin around 3k rpm. Thankfully they’re down around 4-5 so they’re getting swapped out for MP4S very soon
