I saw it was reduced to either 15.6 or 15.8.

Unfortunately, range does not appear to be its strong suit.

Really! I wonder why they would not comprehensively address one of the E9x's weakest points?

I assume you've quoted US gallons...so a 60 litre tank. In which case on the combined cycle stat's you'd be getting 328 miles range (528km). Given that the euro testing is generally optimistic, we're looking at sub 300mi/500km range.

I am surprised.

Low fuel capacity is in part how BMW got the car down to 3,300 lbs. They do that all the time in designing motorcycles.

I guess one can't debate that this factor contributes to a lower official weight specifications. However, the official capacity reduction is 3 l (63 l -> 60 l). That is about 4.5 lb. If they really achieved a 25% improvement in fuel efficiency then that will certainly way more than cover the lost tank capacity. I guess I'd say hats off they actually got 2 birds with one stone on this one.

This would also take a somewhat typical 250 mi range (running her dry) up to right about 300 mi. That's also great.

Dumbest comment I've heard so far. The exterior design of the f30 and f80 are so similar that non enthusiasts won't really even notice a difference. So if an f30 looks like an old Hyundai so does the m3. Drives like an old Camry?? Yeah....ooookay. Some people on this forum really need to grow up and not say such extremely ignorant comments like yours. Stop with the rediculous bashing, you sound like a unknowledgeable moron. They're all based on the same car for the most part. The 335i is a great car and very capable. M3 just makes it perfect. Old hyundai.......? Unreal.

Could just be marketing, but if they really achieved a significant reduction on CoG - that is going to have some really tremendous impact.

When I watch the videos of a stock e9x m3 going around the track and I watch videos of the f8x m3/m4 being tracked, I feel like the F8x platform is much flatter and quicker to change direction. I'm being subjective here and using my eyes as the judge, so make your own opinion. It's a bigger vehicle now so I've been watching body control very closely. The f8x seems to rebound a bit more aggressively but it's always tightly controlled and the speed and composure in which it changes directions is startling in a sedan of it's size.

IDK if it's chassis stiffness, CoG, weight reduction, suspension tuning, etc....but I'm really extremely curious to see how it all comes together. I think this new m3 is going to post some very surpising lap times when the time comes.
Agreed the F8x cars, especially the M4 look very agile and flat during corners + transitions in the track videos. Can't wait to see how these cars perform in the mag reviews.

Hope they don't slap RFT's on the 2015 M3/M4 in the US.

NO Run Flats I hope! Not mentioned in the specifications.

Since you brought up the S52, I will use mine for a positive example of how I have seen BMWs take more power than they are designed for.

I gave my car 13psi on the stock/original head gasket for 10k miles on a BAD tune, AA of course. The car held the abuse, even the stock clutch hadn't slipped and the original brakes still in place at 80k miles.

I only put in a cutring headgasket for insurance as I threw in cams and planned for 16psi with a proper tune and more exhaust work.

So it's not apples to apples, but it gives me faith in the robustness of the major components on an M car.

Yeah, but doesn't mean Michelin didn't make a set just for BMW.

Fair enough! BMW does tend to have pull in all sorts of outside vendors.

It just wouldn't make sense to go on about all this weight loss to strap 50lbs of spare hardware onto the car when they do no such thing on any of the other M products.

Could be wrong though.

The last E92 M3 I test drove did not have RFT. Nor was there a spare.

BMW included a tire "fix-it" kit under the trunk mat.

If I had to bet, I would bet all the money on no run-flat tires.

Oh yeah! Totally forgot my E36/7 has the "M Mobility Kit". I never saw what came on the car stock, but thinking back they might not have been runflats.

So you may be totally right.

Small remark: did anyone else notice how far to the right the i-drive controller is placed on the midcenter console? It looks like it's almost out of reach ?

I just happened to look to the Z4 thread (on bimmerpost homepage) and there the i-drive controller is place left of the middle of the center console...

Yeah that's what it was called, the M Mobility Kit. It was basically a can of fix-a-flat and some other stuff.

They're still rolling with that because BMW knows, deep down, that proper tires should be on proper M cars like yours and like the new F80 M3.
