interior ambient light

not so long ago I asked on this forums about interior lighting. I mentioned that it was not bright enough and very few posts about the ambient light.

I wanted to share with some pictures what I was able to accomplish with a little modification

There's a kit on amazon, clear plastic, for about $60. Is this what you used ?

Looks pretty good. Can you share what you used and how it was installed?

it fits right under existing light on the door panel. No need for modification. There is a tab on the plastic lexan that has a tab that slides between the door and your led lights.

Since the LED's are directional it emits the lights to the lexan piece. The lexan (Plastic) piece will spread the lights across the entire bar giving you the illusion of an LED strip.

Fitment is 10 out of 10. Installation is extremely simple and easy.

line up the strip to the door and inserted between the door and led.

I just thought it should have been this way from the factory.

On the downside, it is not as bright as an led strip or like the 5 series.

Why you don't show us some pictures if you create a thread for it? Or a link would be nice.

I have a set of these as well that I got from Ebay for my 340i and transferred over to the M3. The first set was 3D printed and warped in the heat (Houston) but I got a second set from the same guy that was made differently and they've been fine ever since.

They're expensive for what they are, but they make it a little brighter and the main thing for me is that it stopped the annoying LED rattle. Those strips always made noise on rough roads and bumps but they stopped when I put these on.

There's a thread somewhere on bimmerpost for these where someone offers the CAD program to make them. Would just need to google for a 3D printer service to make them.

I am not certain if this fits an M4. I'm pretty sure they make this for different models. It would be easy to cut it if it is long but no other way to extend it.

Would you mind measuring the length of them on the front doors? I want them, but not sure if it would fit my M4.

21 x 0.2 x 0.2 inches This is the information found on Amazon. I think the rears are about 1 inch shorter.

so you convert diffused light to a strip light

think i prefer the softer diffused light, those led stripes are too distracting at night in the cars ive driven with them

There is no conversion involved. Just a plastic strips that sits right under your existing light. FYI they are not as bright as the vehicles you see now days. Like the new Mercedes or BMW's. Those are extremely bright!
