How to maintain the alcantara steering wheel

Hi guys,

The car has only 5k miles on it, so the steering wheel is as new. What to do in order to maintain the alcantara steering wheel look fresh in the years to come?

Also, have the same question regarding the leather seats. How to prevent wear of the bolsters?

Cheers,
S

Keeping your hands clean always helps for steering wheel life. Just maintain it regularly and you'll have no problems. Same goes for your seats, but bolster wear is inevitable at some point. You just have to learn how to get in/out in the best way to put the least amount of contact on them. Maintaining the leather will always help the look as well.

For the steering wheel - Wear Gloves or keep your hands oily free as possible. You can re-wrap the alcantara down the road but alcantara becomes like hard chunky if it gets worn out.

For the seat bolster, it's best if you code in the seat rolling back/forward on entry. Easy Entry I think it's called? You can also try to be careful getting in and out.

Getting in - Sit on the seat first, turn your body and bring in 1 leg at a time.

Getting out - Turn your body, put your legs out, and then push yourself up from the door frame.

The great thing about alcantara is that it's very durable and easy to wash. No need to re-wrap as mentioned above.

Simply take a bucket of very hot water, add 1-2 drops of gentle detergent (Woolite or similar), and a microfiber towel. Soak the towel in the bucket, wring out until damp, and gently twist it around the rim of the wheel. This will lift the dirt and oil out. You can then use a soft brush to restore the "fluff" after it dries out.

The wheel on my GTS is 4 years old and the car has 36k miles. While the stitching is a bit worn, the alcantara is still like new using the above method.
