F80 M3 & F82 M4 Pricing?
Does anyone want to venture a guess for the pricing on these new vehicles? Once all the bells and whistles are on (LED headlights, Carbon Ceramic Brakes, etc.) do you feel that the M4 will be pushing 95 to 100K? I realize this me be a topic that was discussed in the past, but any further thoughts as more information is coming in (albeit slowly).

Not the exact same market but the new 450 horsepower 2014 Corvette is priced in the US at $52,000 and the convertible at $57,000.............if the new M3 starts at much more than $60,000 US then I think the new Corvette will be tempting many potential M3 buyers.

I agree based on historical price increases between generations that seems low but do you really think they would price it way above the S5 and C63? Seems like a bad move for a company jockeying for "top luxury car manufacturer."

It will be interresting to see how it pans out here in Canada where the price of the M5 dropped by $10 000 going from the E60 to the F10. A loaded M3 goes for $85-90k where the M5 starts at $105k. Any big increase on the M3 will put it in M5 territory.

I certainly hear you, but for me at least, pricing isn't the determining factor between choosing between the F10 M5 and F80. I want the lighter and better handling car, especially since the interior and trunk space on the F30 make it a more practical 3 than ever before. With the more extensive changes the M3 receives compared to the M5, I think it is the better value car even when priced closely. Now, none of this means I don't still like the M5s, it's a wonderful car and it's the choice if you have growing kids. I'm just disappointed with the weight gain E60-F10.

The price to increase as the years go by, meaning that in 2017/9 the prices will be...90+k. That's stripper 911 territory; used R8 V10 territory; nearly GT-R pricing. I'm going to make a guess as 63k...I hope. Anyone know what the ncrease from E46 to E92 was? |

You must be kidding right? There is no way the starting prices for the new m3/m4 will be the ones you listed. Maybe with a load of options but not a raise in $20k for the base price.

Totally ridiculous IMO. BMW would no longer have a presence in the mid-tier luxury/performance category at this price so I highly doubt it would be price that high.

The pricing shift for the F10 M5 would appear to be an effort to bring a bit more partity between the US price and you folks in the Great White North are asked to fork over. It doesn't necessarily mean the M3/M4 price will also decrease from the E9x models, but it may be that the increase is small, or that pricing stays roughly the same. I wouldn't want to speculate too much about that, but I'm pulling for you guys. |

They can charge whatever they want for the carbon ceramic brakes, they're still gonna be a colossal waste of money unless you're getting paid for your laptimes (which nobody buying a street M3/M4 is).

So the last e46 m3 in 2006 has a base price msrp 48900.00 and the 2008 e90 has a base price msrp 53800 and coupe was 56600.00. So the MSRP jumped 10% almost exactly to the sedan and 15% for coupe... they will include more standard features too normally... so if final 2011 e90 was roughly 55900.00 if pricing stays consistent in model jump we are looking at 10% increase to roughly 61490.00 for sedan and 64350 for coupe

With the Audi RS5 and C63 AMG coupe being prime competitors, I feel that the M4 would be priced similarly (option for option). The RS5 with carbon ceramic front brakes and almost all options is priced at 87,520. The RS5 cabriolet with similar options is at 96,000. The C63 AMG coupe is at 89,000 with all of the options. That would put the M4 around 85K with similar content. Carbon ceramic brakes would definitely raise the price even higher seeing what they are listed on BMW's website for the M6 ($9250). Granted these are heavily optioned vehicles (for comparison) and all three companies are fighting for market share, so I know the pricing strategy will take this into account. I didn't look at base prices as I was trying to see how expensive it could get in this category of vehicles.

I should have stated that I meant an averaged optioned car. My 2011 E90 had a $73k sticker and didn't have all options. The F80 will likely have a lot more on the option list as HUD, CF roof, Ceramic brakes, LED headlights and more.
And to be honest, there isn't really anything south of the 911 that can compete with these cars so I would not consider it overpriced even if it wouldn't be the bargain it really is today. There is IMO room to move these cars up the price scale. Not what we hope for but IMO the truth. I fully expect my F80 to carry a close to $80k sticker. Maybe I'm just colored by having recently purchased a Porsche. It puts things in a perspective. Last edited by solstice; Today at 12:18 PM. |

To be complete I looked up the base prices of the RS5 coupe (69,795), RS5 cabriolet (78,795) and the C63 AMG coupe (62,330). I hope there will be more standard features on the M and that they will step up the level of quality in interior materials, etc. (not that it is bad, but just looks dated and not as nice IMO as say some of the new Porsche or Audi interiors). I agree with you on the options and Porsche pricing. It doesn't take much to make it hit the stratosphere, however, the quality seems top notch.

I don't count the RS5 as an F80 competitor due to cramped interior room. RS6 would be more comparable, and then the price is stratospheric. S6 is so much heavier...
You see my conundrum. I'm still waiting for the F80.
