Hello,

A fellow Seattle resident! Your photography skills are amazing.... I did ED myself last year and enjoyed it very much but the iPhone 6 just doesn't do it lol. Thanks for posting, really appreciate it!

Thank you all for the kind words... it makes carrying around 20 pounds of photo equipment worth it

Thanks for the amazing write up! I love reading these things and people's experiences. And, obviously, awesome photography. Did you use grad filters for all your skies or did you shoot raw and then process them (sort of software grad filter) ? Never knew which way works better.

Also, your quote "The second last day I decided to risk it, and went for a nice long drive along the Route Napoleon. It was the best part of our time in France!!! 6.5 hours of glorious mountain roads with wide sweeping curves!! " is dead on and what I had said in my ED journal: the southern French roads are the best place to enjoy an M. They are incredible as is the experience. We did part of that and part of the parallel mountain passes- just awesome drives.

Also, we were in StTropez at the tail end of the season and maybe that is when it shows its charm better: mostly quiet winding streets, amazing restaurants tucked down small alleys, and very friendly people. We met more people in our short time there than on the rest of our trip (and we are shy). We stayed pretty much in the old town (Hotel de Paris) so were walking around exploring the entire time.

Anyways, amazing write up, congrats on the car, and congrats on the trip!!

I did both. A grad filter up-front means less time in post-processing, but you gotta carry it. RAW and post processing layering work just fine in most situations, so if weight (and cost) are more of a priority you can make due. You can also take multiple exposures and overlay them for a nice HDR, but again, takes more time.

I do however always carry a polarizer.... the best $50 ever spent!

I got my fun in Italy... the speed limit there was more of a suggestion. I was humming along at 95-100 and others were just passing me as if I was parked. Had to keep it below 105 though

Amazing pictures! I would redo my ED from August 2015 again tomorrow if I could.

I must say, as pretty as the aqua dome seems, 4/5 days in Austria and no stops in Vienna or Salzburg and you missed out on the best Austria has to offer. I hope you've been to them both and that's why you skipped out on them. :

We had to leave something for next time

Also we tend to gravitate more towards nature. Finally, before this trip both of us worked day and night, so we really needed some quiet time for some R&R.

But yes, next time we do plan to visit Vienna.
