Drove an F90 M5 today

Over the past couple of months I have contemplated if I should keep my 2015 F80 (currently has just over 18k miles). While having the last (free) service completed last month I saw a new M5 on the showroom and I have to admit I was attracted to it.

I was interested to see what type of deal could be had on the new M5. My 2015 F80 had an MSRP of 76k and is garage kept. The dealership offered me 45k for my F80 and they offered the M5 at 2k off the MSRP of $118k. I politely passed on the deal and the vehicle (M5) sold several days later.

Fast-forward to today and me and the wife stopped by another local BMW dealer and test drove a new M5 with a MSRP of $118k. The power of the M5 is intoxicating to say the least. The interior is a upgrade over the F80. The B&O stereo is in another league compared to the HK stereo in the F80. I have the BAV Sound speaker and sub-woofers in my F80.

Today's deal has me thinking. They offered me 47k for my F80. They where discounting the M5 7k and there was another 3.5k discount (total discount 10.5k) if I finance through BMW.

Interest rates stink right now and it looks as if the FED is going to raise rates again before the end of the year. If I purchase the M5 I will either borrow against my own money to pay the vehicle off or look for a better rate.

Not a bad deal on the M5. The 2019 M5 comp package cars are becoming available and you are starting to see better deals on the 2018 M5.

Unless you want to wait for the M5 CP, now is a good time to negotiate on a 2018.

What do the lease deals for the M5 look like? Honestly I would be scared to own as the depreciation is absolutely insane.

That's actually not today bad for $118k car. Honestly I would lease it at that price personally.

Agreed. 61% residual is attractive for a car that will likely depreciate rapidly. Probably 59% with 12k miles. That’s not bad.

Well I made the transition last night to a new M5. It was a bitter sweet good bye to the F80. I was going to play it safe so to speak with the color (was looking at a alpine white) of the M5 but then we saw the snapper rocks blue metallic.

Interesting enough I was looking at buying a new 911 S but this new M5 is something else.

I did a purchase instead of a lease. I went to another dealership that had a larger selection of M5's and at first it looked like I would not receive any discount. So I asked the salesman if 47k for my trade and 10k off MSRP (including the 2k rebate) would be a great deal on a M5 and he said it would be. I then laid my cards on the table and explained the deal I received the day prior and I said I would be going back to that dealership. It helped I had taken pictures of the deal the day prior on my cell phone.

To make a long story short they matched the deal.

programming in general has been kinda of blah for a while now across the board. But most of the time trying to get rid of older models to make room for new is the std

Congrats OP. Car looks phenomenal.

I agree that is scary depreciation. Id personally never buy an M5/X5M new due to the depreciation. I'd only lease.

Yes, color looks fantastic OP! I do agree with you, it would be very scary knowing I bought a car that will lose ~20k in value a year
