Not sure why you say that. Only LRG and FDB were advertized as exclusive colours for the CS with a $5000 price tag in the US (we get these 2 colours for free in Canada). SMB was offered at the standard metallic price of $550 on the CS (same as BSM), so there is no "premium" paid for SMB on the CS.

If anything, BMW NA is behind the rest of the world with respect to offering SMB as a standard metallic colour to the rest of the M3/4 lineup.

I paid 5k (cdn) for an individual F80SMB in 2016 and could care less if it's standard now for the next year. In fact I'd like to see a couple more SMB cars in the road since I appreciate how it looks.

Any car not black, white or silver is welcomed on the streets in my book!

BMW dont care about right or wrong. BMW know people can afford and are willing to pay that extra cash when it come to color choices. The standard pallete is utter garbage on the M3 and M4 for a car of that price range. Lay off the sodium so you wont be so salty lol.

Well, at least it's not 20K, which is what it costs if you want it on the M2C.

Gotta love that dirt repellent MW, maintenance is a breeze.

More info about the pictured M2: here. It's a BSM M2 that got an Auto Flex Gloss sprayable wrap. The color ain't San Marino Blue but the owner tried to match it (and did a good job), as his former 2016 M3 was SMB.

The close-up of the 'Individual' picture is taken from an F80 M3 (Spring 2015 build).

It's about time. SMB has been made a standard colour replacing SSII in the rest of the world since early 2018.
I'll bet someone complains SSII has been replaced as a standard color. Personally, I prefer yellows, blues, red and orange to white, black, grey and silver on these cars.

They say things happen for a reason. Was going to order a SMB M4 in December. Glad I didn't. I would have been bitter spending 5k on paint. or 10k according to Braman

Regardless, beautiful color. Nice to see it as a regular option. Now they need a Nardo or Atlantis

Agree with you on the behind part. BMW limited the color in the first place, creating it as a color option that was on the CS, (which does indeed add to its exclusivity ) and then has reversed that decision and now is splashing it across the lineup.

As you said. They made an error in even having such a limited color palette in the first place , and then didn't even stick to it and opted to reverse themselves.

That's progress !

BMW has an Individual program that's the Crayola ultimate 152 pack , but their standard color palette is a 16 pack with a few missing.. Perhaps in the next 3 -5 years they will up their color game like they have their seat/interior game in the last round of new models.

Apparently this is math that BMW and CanAutM3 don't understand. : or at least feel it's worth attempting to explain away.

I agree. I guess my consolation prize is that there are no standard M3s with SMBs.

Next time I'll either order a super rare individual color or just go standard.

You "uncheck" manual transmission and it changes it to DCT.

Is it just me, or did they forget there is a DCT option? It's weird how they've decided to handle this. Usually, there was a DCT option but now, you untick the manual box and it goes DCT.

You're missing my point. From a worldwide perspective, BMW made SMB a standard metallic colour on the CS only a few months before they made it a standard colour across the entire M3/4 line up. The CS really never had a "special exclusivity" on that colour, unlike LRG.

It is only in the USA that BMW NA decided to do differently. We should not confuse BMW AG with BMW NA.

San Marino is cool and all but getting rid of Silverstone for it? Naa, get rid of Mineral white for SMB, if anything (coming from someone who had a mineral white M3 before).

Silverstone should be standard for every M car, IMO. It's such a sweet color.

I agree with some of the hate on mineral...if its sunny but cloudy it looks like a horrible matte white paint job...but any time you get some ANGLES(drake lol) or the shawdow of a tree reflects on the paint

I love San Marino Blue and I'm glad they made it a standard color for US. Like others have said, i also find the standard color palette lacking, and i think SMB is a great choice for appealing to a wide selection of buyers. It's a beautiful deep metallic blue that should be readily available as a standard color on a car like the M4. It's also a great option to have along with YMB to choose from. As someone who loves BMW's Individual non-metallic blues like LSB, Mexico, Miami, and my new fav Santorini, I'm also glad it's SMB and not one of those, if only to not dilute the exclusivity of those colors. SMB was already on that path in the rest of the world.
