Well, folks, all good things must come to an end. Be glad that we all here have a F8x, which will over time, go down as peak M3/M4. It will take them years to realize their mistakes and then try to pivot. By time, will we be here? Yes, probably with our F8xs but I'll seriously look elsewhere for my next fun car. That, you can take to the bank.

I will not adjust to the G8x looks ever and find it acceptable. Its not just the grille, the lines look meh. People don't talk about that rear bumper, but that looks unsightly too. Nor will I think that more weight is better either, crystal shifters, drift meters and all that nonsense (with stupid M parts to bump their margins) attract me back and to add insult to it, charge me about $10K more for it lol.

I think we can time stamp this; check BMW out in 4 years and see if they actually sell anything that makes you sell your right kidney to get one. I still remember the E46 M3. That car caught the imagination of tons of people, who would unabashedly give anything to get the car. I recall because I was one of them. Can that be said of anything in BMW's lineup today?

This is so a 2020 event.

Here are some photos I took when I attended the recent M Track days event in Sonoma, closeups of the new G8x platform.
They've been inviting me left and right to all their idiotic events to see this monstrosity. I just hit delete. Thing is a joke

As a proud boomer, I find the "OK, Boomer". "put down" highly offensive.

After reducing the Euro Delivery discount and then completely eliminating the program, reducing the free maintenance period from 4 years to 3 years, topping all that off with the grotesque G80/G82 and now the iX, I'm pretty close to just saying "OK, BMW. Fuck off !". I see a P-car in my future circa 2023.
Yup. We both love ED. Between killing that and this mess I'm pretty much done with BMW. I may keep my 2020 F82 but it's looking like a 911 could be in my future.

Maybe BMW is doing us a favor?

I actually went there to drive the M5c/M8c/M2c. Had to pay for this event, but you get to beat M cars round the track. Not bad actually.

The M8c is brutally fast but the weight over the M5c was evident. In turns, you felt the weight of that car just push you into slight understeer (with the nannies on) vs the 5. It took more throttle management. I would take the M5c over the M8c on that alone, though if you sat in the car, examined the interior and thought about who this was for, these cars are unlikely to see track time.

Is it me or has BMW and ///M turned into MBZ AMG during the early 2000s when they merged with Chrysler? Fat unsightly slushbox M cars and now squirely looking EVs. The whole poorly conceived FU marketing campaign pretty much will destroy whatever leftover customer loyalty they have.

I'm not a boomer but I don't find it offensive. What I find worse is that BMW thought they were cool and trendy using an outdated meme everyone knows ok boomer stopped trending months ago, its like when a parent tries to act cool in front of their kids friends and then fail.

Offended or not it was just a lazy and super lame response to something everyone already knows. Sadly seems par for the course for BMW as of late. Lame advertising, lame marketing and lame designs.

Depends on the age group BMW are targeting. Which, let's be honest here they have absolutely NO idea who they want to speak to.

They seemily want the younger crowd of 30 below, but none of them can realistically afford a car at a 80k+ range. Then the ones that can afford them, they call boomers, which would either annoy them or just turn of them completely from the brand entirely. Those who can afford them can easily look into other brands because they can afford them.

BMW's marketing team needs to be fired along with their stupid designer that came up with this. The fact that they thought this was "fine" to release shows enough how disconnected BMW is with their buyers.

If I were to hazard a guess, BMW corporate didn't see/expect the fierce backlash coming over all the new designs (G8x, iX, etc.). They expected the loyalists to get with the program and this marketing campaign was a little step to see if they could try to convince the loyalists by appealing to them to be flexible and accept the changes.

The problem is the tone. It again reinforces that BMW doesn't listen to its core audience. I'm not insulted (not a boomer) but its the arrogance that they continue to exhibit by claiming that they are right is clear in that meme. Marketing firm or whoever runs their social media platform needs a lesson in listening and reading (apparently all the negative comments on the launches didn't seem to sink in).

As others have said it’s just dumb to most of us. But, I could see some well heeled boomers not laughing and taking their money elsewhere. And I wouldn’t blame them.

Nice job new leadership at BMW, you guys may be taught in future business classes on how to destroy a storied brand image almost overnight.

I have a feeling their marketing team is ran by youts. Since they’re systematically blocking negative feedback, it would make sense that they are tone deaf, blind, and toopid.

And now that the 'moved post' link from the main forum is almost gone from the first page people are probably hoping this will all quietly go away.

Yes, this thread ended up with a few G8x vs F8x posts, as always. But the thread is actually about a larger problem with the heavy handed response to critics of the new designs (plural) and the thinly veiled censorship that seems to be going on. That problem is exacerbated by some very poorly judged marketing and social media.

(oops, we accidentally deleted a bunch of posts when we moved the thread to "the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”)

I was actually going to tweet reply that #1 as a reply as I fully am trying to do so now without any sort of regrets.

Already have a 21' GTS coming at the end of the month. If things goes okay, I maybe getting something I will keep until I grow old hopefully.

I have absolutely no qualms in putting money where my mouth is. I will not support a brand that throws its loyal customers under the proverbial bus.

P.S. My Macan GTS is on a cargo ship called the Talia. Ship just passed Panama Canal eta end of the month if no delays.

A new weird commercial, with more dizzying camera shots, fire everywhere and screaming behind the wheel, albeit this time in an uglier M3.

This. Every bit of this.

Please tell me the two tone paint isn't a stock paint job.

I've owned every M3 chassis from the E30 on with the exception of the F8x. The F8x might be the replacement car when my GT lease is up. The G series M3 is not what I'm looking for. No thank you.

LMAO, its dizzying and annoying. I guess I need tats on my neck and be brooding and be able to hold fire in my hands. That's who they're gunning for?

But seriously, it really feels like they are trying to sell the cool factor associated with the M3. This tone is very different from the ads of the past. It's not about the car, its about the image of owning the car.

Therefore we can conclude, that motorsports and driving nirvana is not what the G8x platform is marketed for. I can almost say and it sounds like heresy, Ford and GM are going a more bang up job than BMW with their latest performance offerings.

That makes sense now if we look at all the recent ads. See all the other ads, BMW's ads feel like they were made by the same agency that made Apple ads. It should be product, then a lifestyle wrapper. Instead, BMW is preaching a lifestyle around their cars. End of an era folks. Welcome to the new BMW.
