I saw the new G 2-series Gran Coupe at LAAS back at the end of 2019. Interior aside (it looks like every other damn G chassis car, winch isn't great imo.) it looked a bit stubby from the rear. Hope the M2 is different. btw, Rennlist is up in arms over the M2CS winning lol. It's funny to read. Most there are in utter denial. Edit: btw what in the good god is this?! https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/12/07/b...ept-crossover/

They still aren't as bad as the Ford fanboys on the 'Stang sites. They still have hardcore ones saying the Voodoo is just fine and it's only a few of us that have had issues. As if the engine were the only thing..... |

Agreed, that was an easy fix! So they just colored in the front blank bumper cross bar and moved the bow tie to the more traditional spot in the grille. The G8X and iX require a complete redesign. I doubt it will be fixed just due to re-tooling costs alone. That's way too many body panels they have to create new molds and stamps.

You can never make everyone happy, but I think you can try and make the least amount unhappy. I know these brands invest massively into market research etc, which surprises me when they come out with stuff like BMW and Chevy did. Makes you wonder who they are talking to etc.

Even I've changed. Before it had to be a 2 door n/a I'm driving a 4 door turbo Think about it; if you're being introduced to the brand You can go in any direction. This car is for future gen not really the current gen. A HS kid dreaming of an M; is all about style and image; Twitter, snap snap, social media. Nurburgring times be Damn |

I would have held my E90 until '21, built and ordered a G80 if they hadn't utterly butchered it. I was looking forward to once again having a dual purpose family car for road trips and distant track days.

Bottom line, their current marketing strategy makes no sense. Especially when the future gen cares less and less about cars etc. |

Think about it; it makes 100% sense. None of the ads really resonate with past M3 or "performance". To me it makes a lot of sense, in that it makes no sense, if that makes sense. (Comedy intended) This car is marketed to a much younger audience that care more about connected aps than a Carbon Fiber drive shaft and forged wheels etc All that said I'd get all black G80 the pure. |

I'm not saying it alienates everyone, if you like it or don't like it the marketing really doesn't matter. But, it certainly doesn't help any brand to piss off a large segment of the market. Especially the segment that has the $$$ to buy your product when you are a luxury brand. |

While the ads don't resonate with me at all and I too am around 50 yrs old, I've never bought cars or products because of the image an ad is trying to evoke. I've always bought what I wanted. For example, I wanted a Macintosh computer back in 1984 not because I wanted to be a revolutionary anti-big brother kinda person. I pushed my parents to get me a Mac b/c I was blown away by the idea of a mouse and a GUI, etc. The G8x commercials are definitely over the top and I don't have one single tattoo on my body so I'm not in their cool kids demo. With that said, I still want the G80 b/c I like the looks, I'm anticipating great performance based on how fast the X3M is, and it still ticks all my boxes (seat 4 comfortably for the family, has enough room that I can throw my road or mtn bike in the trunk w/ seats folded, handles well, looks great, fast as hell... and has a 6MT). Frankly, I think some of the older BMW commmercials are kinda bad too... but, that didn't stop me from wanting an M3 back in the day either. Glad to hear that you are open to a G80 despite all the negativity in this thread. |

This is going to sound harsh but its an opinion.
I'm not in the same camp. Getting a black car to hide the obviousness of the grille is not something I will do. Either it looks good or not; if I had have get a color to 'hide' the lines, forget it, I'm out. At this price point, I feel as consumers, we should not have to compromise our choices. My personal take is that black is generally a terrible color choice as it's a hard color to keep clean. The issue with the G80 is not just the grille; its about the inherent design choices to increase the weight. Power just hides the weight gain, it to me, inherently, isn't what an M3 should be. If you look around you, other brands have continually made strides and improved their products. Technically, the only upgrade is power and AWD (which other brands have done). For people who track cars, ask them if heavier cars are a problem on consumables and get back to me. Drift meter to score my drifts? Are you kidding? How often is that going to be used? I used to make excuses for BMW, but no longer. The new gen G80s may look 'aggressive' but they have lost the trademark looks that define a BMW. Look at the rear, it looks like a RC F sport from Lexus from a far. If I wanted 4 doors and a high hp engine, its a M5, not an M3. |

I would also point out the fallacy of BMW's thinking about modding.
They are pretty much banking on a lot of G8x cars being modded to look better. It shouldn't be a requirement for a car to look better. A stock F80 or F82 still turn my head when I see them driving down the road. You should not have to mod the crap out of a G8x to make it look at least some what appealing. You shouldn't be forced to get a Black or darker colored car to hide that hideous grille.
