Bmw m4 crank bolt capture install ~ diy

I purchased a lightly used BMW M4 COMP 6 Speed and the FIRST Mod on the list was the CRANK BOLT CAPTURE from VVT. This small billet part mounts to the front balancer/pulley and makes sure the crank bolt can't loosen. Theoretically the crank bolt will "never' slip if the factory torque spec is properly maintained. I hope this install video helps and thanks for watching!

Wow thanks for the video. This just made the install appear so much simpler than it sounds. Guess I'll be buying this and working on it once it arrives

Man that's a lot of effort when all you need to do is remove the carbon brace and driver's side intake tube, and go from the top/side.

I tried the top method for about 15 minutes before I finally gave up and went from the bottom. There was no way I was getting my hands in there and I don't have particularly large hands/forearms. Plus the fan shroud was eating my forearm alive. It's more work but wasn't terrible. Plus I was able to take the tension of the belt by going through the bottom so I didn't have to worry about the dampener coming off.

But, if you can get it from the top, by all means it's the way to go.

Yeah I had to wear long sleeves when I did it, that plastic shroud is pretty sharp. Still got a little torn up.

Yeah going in from the bottom made more sense to me as well 👌🏻

Mine just got delivered today! One of those things where it's better to have it, and not need it, vs needing it, and not having it. Be happy as a clam if I never need its added protection :-)

Same! And I did a BM3 tune right after 🏁 Goodluck with the install.

Called my shop, they said this is a waste of time and money. Either full fix or no fix.

I see you're in Phoenix. I'm guessing the shop is Parts Score. Shocker that a for profit shop would recommend a $4k fix over a DIY $100 fix. If you have the money, do the full fix. But there is nothing wrong with doing the CBC. It has a good track record.

Lol at that shop 😂😂 seems like they know exactly why the bolt backs out, something BMW engineers never figured out LMFAO.

Let me put it this way, no one has spun the hub with just a CBC without money-shifting a 6 speed yet these shops somehow know that the CBC does nothing? Interesting.

People can do as they please but multiple VTT full fixed have spun the hub because they didn't have a CBC with their "fix", looks to me like the CBC is what keeps the whole thing from falling apart.

Why do people even care at the end of the day, it's a win win situation. You either never spin (yay!) Or you become the first ever to spin (yay!) and become super famous and everyone knows you, and you are the sole contributor to the inner workings on why the CBC doesn't work.

I don't know about you, but either situation is a win in my book.

I think the win is to sell the m4 and get myself a GTR, M8, R8 or something else lol. JK, I don't know enough to speak about the crank hub issue. All I know is that I want to go to BM3 stage 2 and I can't because I'm afraid I will spin the damn thing. I am already taking a risk with stage 1.

It is so unfortunate and bummer this issue exists.

Stage 1 to stage 2 is not a significant gain tune-wise.

You gain horsepower from the catless DP.

Thanks for the DIY video!! After watching your way to install the CBC, I went ahead and order the VTT CBC from X-PH.... maybe the best money spent for this car!

Truly appreciate the video - followed to the tee other than using an E10 socket instead of the 8mm. Very simple approach to going from underneath. I'd say it took me about 2 hours taking my time (picking leaves out of the front leaf catcher). Thanks again
