The roads suck and I would avoid using it as a DD if I lived in SF. I'd probably DD some sort of SUV to bomb over everything at speed and not worry about road clearance or wheel damage, and keep the F80 for weekends. But that kinda defeats the purpose of having the M3 (or M4 in your case) since they are great for DD duty (when not driven on crap roads daily). Some people here probably DD their F8X on crap roads and are ok with it and maybe you'll fall into that camp in the end. Have you considered getting an X3M (when it becomes available) instead? Then you get the power and wouldn't have to worry about shit roads. Although you'll probably have to get different wheels and tires (or at least tires with more sidewall). |

I ride a Triumph Street Triple R on Monday-Thursday for my work commute. Then Friday and the weekend are the M Days!

My M4 is not a daily driver for me anymore...wow
My son is off to college so his car (Honda HRV) is pretty much just sitting around for him to use when he comes back on weekends/Christmas/summer. So for the last few weeks I have been driving it as my DD, and "saving" my M4 for weekend duty. Wow, does the M4 ever feel super special every weekend now and I can't wait to drive it. Since most of my weekday commute is in stop/go traffic (and I have the 6spd manual), the HRV is a perfectly fine commuter. I really wish this special feeling would be there more, but I have a real car switchitis disease.

I never daily drove my M3 (E92) and as you stated, I was looking fw to weekends and nice weather to get her out and enjoy it besides sitting in rush hour commute while dealing with bunch of i-diots here in Seattle.
Some people love driving them every day and some really enjoy them much more in relaxed environments.

I do agree.
Performance/sport cars are only good for weekends

Very Nice!
I bought my '15 F80 thinking it was suppose to be my daily and drove it a lot. When I got my '16 F16 X6, my F80 became once or twice a month weekend car. Yes, 6spd feel special every time I take it out. Now that I drive my Tahoe daily and park in front of 3rd garage, it is either that or X6. M3 has less than 18k and X6 about the same amount. |

I love driving it daily. Thats why I opted for the DCT. My weekend car is the E46 M3 Convertible. Still so much more "M" and special that the F82 so I am always looking forward to drive both.

IMO the whole idea of the M3/4 is that it is a performance oriented daily driver. They can seat 4-5 people, have plenty of trunk space, and are quiet/comfortable when in efficient mode. If I were to have a weekend only car, it would be a true sports car that would be impractical for daily use.

I daily mine and I love it except for the up/down driveway part of the day which I hate. Granted, that is not the M3's fault. But when I have to run a lot of errands, I prefer my wife's X3 M40i. Easier to get in an out multiple times, park wherever, etc.
I was worried about it being firm since I've had major back issues. It's a 7 series next to my prior Lotus Elise! |

Indiana resident here, and while I drive the M as often as I can... I did pick up a 6spd 08 TSX for winter driving. Just don't want to take the risk of someone who doesn't know how to drive in bad weather plowing into the F80.

I’m not a manual transmission purist guy and my last two were DCT. Both are great in there own ways, but I’ll admit I’m enjoying the manual more than my past DCT cars. |

Current DCT F80 is daily driven, as was my 6MT E92 M3 before it - usually drive it about 2-3 days a week, rest of the time my wife and I drive in together in her F31 340i.

Every weekday @ 30-35mi roundtrip.
Occasional weekend use with a toddler in the backseat if driving through CA280N between Palo Alto and Redwood City is part of the route and the dog isn't invited. I have been contemplating taking the wife's X5 40e 2x a week to save some mileage/gas money for some more weekend "enthusiasm." It's just so hard to not want to get into the F80 though... Plus, that may lead to more toddler time in my car if she ever needs to head out for errands on any of those days. |

To daily drive, or to not daily drive
I just picked up an extremely clean AW/SO 2017 [non-ZCP] M3 with 23,800 miles. I have attached the build sheet (77.70k MSRP is not shown).
I am trying to justify whether I should daily drive it, or pick up a 3k beater and drive the M3 a few days a week and store it during the winter. At the end of the day it is not a supercar, but what did you guys decide on with yours? Especially interested in hearing from those who live in regions where the snow can fly. |

What's so appealing about these cars is that you can daily them 5 days a week and on the sixth day, trash it around the track.
With proper tires and the M LSD, it is good in the snow, the heater works fast, etc.; it's just another 3 Series, frankly. Get PPF and rust-proof undercarriage treatment done for the winter days and drive it all year round. But if your commute is just a mile or two long, the mechanical sympathy in me says pick up a beater for those short shit journeys.
